I was just wondering how you lit this, you did a wonderful job of it!

Would you mind sending me a PM when you read this?

Thanks!

blimey, that was a surprise!

i just realised i didn't leave any comments when i submitted this, so just in case you're wondering a few particulars are as follows:

the liquid in the full glass is "purple herbal" fairy (dishwashing) liquid

lighting comprised of a torch

background is an A3 sheet of red paper.

the final picture is the 96th of a 100 odd attempts, with some minor works to curves, cropping and neat image (wonderful software that).

can't think of anything else. anyway, thanks to all you splendid peoples for the nice comments. and yay! i'm quite royally pleased with meself.

Wonderful use of monochrome - the fullness of the glass and the differences in reds that go from purple and black to orange and yellow are just wonderful. I ilke that the background is not quite regular, adding to the visual interest.

Nice idea, the choice of color really fits with the lighting.

Good job...

Well shot. Great lighting. Too bad this is an open challenge or you could have cloned out thoses light spots on the glasses.

I've tried shots like this and I know lighting can give you fits. Good job.

I checked on two monitors and I see rings from overprocessing? on the background Too much saturation maybe?
Otherwise I would have scored it better as it stands I gave it a 5

Exceptional one of several that did the half full or full empty theme. Of all of them, this is my top choice. Wonderful lighting - super choice of colors.

Interesting, but the differences between each glass doesn't, in my novice opinion, convey an "opposite."

A great example of the "predictable" being made so that it awes you. I love this. I find the slightly soft focus and light perfect. Something is bothering me a bit about the "full" cup -- up at the rim. But that wasn't something I noticed upfront and it doesn't take away from my enjoyment of this picture.

I do not think there's much to criticize here. It's just magnificent. I really like the lighting. The blackness that surrounds this scene gives it a real 3D look

I feel like this picture was really close to breaking thru and just didn't quite make it. Not sure how to change it but I have the feeling that you're getting close to a winner here! Good job!

Nice idea for this challenge! I like the roundness of the shapes and the round light behind. (There is some digital artifact on the background, though.) I think you might have been able to convey the concept better (say, in the absence of a title) by not filling the one glass all the way to the top--I think with a little gap it would still be "full." I mention that because at first glance it appeared to be just a differently colored glass. Overall, very nice. Good lighting, well composed, warm tones....

Beautiful lighting. Great color too. I like the deep shadows, but they may be a little too deep.6

Great color, it warms the scene up. Lighting (backlight?) is almost perfect, I like the color/tone gradation on the left glass. The reflections on the right are mildly distracting (in a members challenge you could spot edit that away), that could be avoided by avoiding all light from behind you I think.

this is an interesting image as far as the background and lighting are concerned, very pleasing flow of color... but the left glass looks like it's painted and the paint is chipped at the rim, not very attractive at all... still, i rate it 6 because of other good attributes...

Cool picture. To fully emphasize the opposite thing - did you think to turn the empty glass upside down?

i really love the colors, but the glare in the glasses could go... great job
