Becky-Lee bundled up against the winter chill.

Shot outdoors, sitting in a piece of playground equipment, so there really was a lot of shadow on her, except her face and a lesser amount coming in from behind.
Experimented with PS, trying to figure out various techniques. I'd appreciate hearing any impressions and advice :)

I kinda like the blur on the scarf but maybe would back it off slightly, also the blur on the face and especially the hair does not work for me. I would only blur and soften near where the hair meets the scarf. Overall I like the tones and sharpness around the eyes.

I think that this looks great (I'm not sure if this is the one you posted originally or if it's a newer version, but I'll still comment on this particular one) I would leave the softness and leave her eyes dark (I don't like the lighter brown version). You could try using a layer mask to selectively lighten or desaturate the red in her nose and cheeks (whichever looks best) and possibly clone out some (not all) of the reflection in her eyes - but those are just tiny nit-picky things that may not even work out like I'm imagining. I went to try my hand at your original, but I wouldn't even know where to start. I think this turned out great.

I don't think you should have blurred any of the skin.

The eyes were a bit dark, so I lightened them a bit in the example below. There is a color difference between her forehead and cheeks, I would even that out a bit. Otherwise, I think you did a very nice job.

This image looks great in thumb. But when I open it it doesnt have the same impact for me. Love the colors and the general composition, but the processing is a bit too heavy handed IMO. The general techniques are good but just too heavy. I would like to see the effect on the scarf toned down a bit. I think the processing took too much away from the texture. Her gaze is wonderful.

I think you did a great job on this one, I esp like the colours and the way you softened the image, it really enhances the feeling of the photo :)
