I think this was one of the hardest challenges so far. I spend the whole week thinking about something original. When I finally had an idea it turned out to be nothing. In the end I decided to use this - not so original - shot of a game of chess.

The message is clear I think: you can - and should - listen to others but at the end of the day it is important to have your own opinion. If yours is the same as the majority than that is great. If it is different than please be different. Stand out of the crowd!

I used my Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II combined with a B&W +2 close up filter. As light source a a simple desk light was used.

Awesome Shot!!! Good to see that someone is winning ribbons with their Digital Rebel/300D. Sure isn't me. :-( LOL!!! Great shot! I love the shallow DOF. Really made this image pop in my opinion.

Well Done, Traveller :)

I haven`t been around much so didn`t vote but I glad to see one of the old CPAUG users getting a ribbon, even if it is with a 300D :)

Hey good job, I think you should have taken first, and from the look of the math on the votes you have the best looking sample, that is to say if this were an experiment the first two would have been tossed out because of the spread of the votes looks suspect.

While I like the color and the focus, I think it would have been stronger in black and white. Very nice job though.

This is a nice image, one of my top. Good choice focusing on the topic of your title. Your light source dramatically brings out the texture in the wooden board and pieces. My only criticism is that the tone is maybe a bit too warm.

Nice nice shot, I wish I had your camera with its focus trickery. This is a winner and a ten- you heard it from me first.

Technically this is an attractive image. In terms of content, it does seem to fall a little flat for me. The command to be an individual seems so much more thrilling than these chess pieces can allow for, and it's like you're almost reducing the ideal to something a little mundane. I think you can still use the chess pieces to spread that kind of message, but you'd have to make a more radical image - right now it's like trying to tell someone to "be unique" when the image itself looks like it's a stock photo for magazine ads. But don't get me wrong! it still does look good visually.

Pleasing composition. I think the white pawn may be just a little too centered, but not overly. Good use of depth of field to draw the viewer to your main subject. 6 -danny

Indeed, people are to preoccupied with being liked, they worry to much about what/how other people perceive them, and are afraid to be who they are. Good messege. Nice photo, good compasition, nice and simple, the focus adds much symbolicaly to the image. good job.

Very nicely done indeed. The DOF is perfect to bring out just that one piece, and I love the angle this was taken at.

technically this is a great shot. But since we see at least one chess shot per challenge it really doesn't appeal to me as a creative shot since, IMO, it is over used. But that's just me. I think your title is well represented in your shot

This is an excellent shot and a great idea for this challenge. I'm wondering what this would look like with some different white balance or possibly in black and white.. This would have been an excellent opportunity for a single color via desaturation. Maybe color that pawn blue or red and then desaturate all the other channels... great shot :) = 10

A subject that has been done over and over, but it works very well for this challenge. Great DOF. =)

NIce work. THought the focusing was very precise and greatly executed. However Personally, theme-title wise, it seems rather cliche.
