 We are renovating an old stone house, and there are a lot of flies that come through the old, torn screens of the windows. Being that this challenge is "sticky" and the flies were really getting on my nerves, I decided to go with the old saying of "you catch more flies with honey, than with vinegar." I took the bowl outside, and placed a piece of white paper underneath, so that you can see the flies more clearly.

Hey there from the Critique Club

Camera Work/Technical: As other voters have commented, the focus needs some work. The captured colors are very nice, but I think a color other than white would have been better for this one.

Lighting: The lighting is off. Your background is a bit too bright and your subject a bit too dark. Perhaps some fill flash would have benefited the end results here.

Composition/Content: Your composition is too centered for this shot. While I am no stickler for the 'rules' of photography, I think a more offset subject would have also helped.

My Opinion: I think with a few small adjustments, this one could have pulled a better score. I do like the creativity of meeting the challenge, as this is the only shot of its type that I remember in the results.

Needs better focus so you could see the tension of the honey under the flies. Also detail on flies is very matte. A bit more shine would have been better.

Flies are so ugly, but there is a hint of beauty here. It just needs something to get it over the hump. Perhaps if the flies were in better focus without necessarily being more detailed. 6
