 Crouched on the side of a hill over squirrel burrows, which occasionally gave way, in order to be at eyeball level with the asphalt. Picked 3 ticks off of myself later, was there to shoot endurance riders in the dark dry creek behind me. ;-) Very narrow DOF on purpose. Windy, so higher shutter speed. In post-processing, a hue/sat adjustment layer and a brightness/contrast adjustment layer, flattened, unsharp mask.

I don't like the link of dead plants/trees/flowers/etc and the challenge. BUT, your pic is exceptional on a technical level. Great focus, depth of field, colours, lighting, etc. Well done.
