This gentleman was playing a fiddle on a corner in the Wiesbaden fußgängerzone (pedestrian district) - in front of a Swavorski crystal shop to be specific. I'm not normally one to walk up and shoot pictures of strangers, so I tried the Joey Lawrence approach. I put some money in his case and asked if I could take his picture. He agreed (at least I'm pretty sure he did) and we chatted for a bit - he in German and me in English. He showed me a clipping he carries in his wallet when his picture was in the paper here. Had a nice accompanying article, too. I'll go back and see him again - I suspect he'll be on that same corner for most of the Christmas season.

Oh wow, I love this, Deb. Takes a lot of courage to walk up to a stranger and just start talking and even more courage to ask to take their picture. Nicely done, beautifully captured!

excellent portrait. perfectly exposed face with all detail, and surrounded on all sides by nice textures. topped off with a great duotone conversion. but most of all, a person worth looking at, captured at the height of his glint.

This is so good Deb. Yes. . .this would make a good Free Study photo. Are you loving it there? How long before you are fluent in German?

Just a tiny bit less exposure on the face, and I think it would give you a wonderful score!

Love this! The toning in particular. You captured a wonderful expression and agree with the others that the DOF is perfect. Hope you're enjoying Germany. :)

Excellent candid. You are in Germany now? I like the DOF you used here.

this is a great portrait. i like the DOF and esp the use of sepia, it fits to the mood of this portrait well. I agree that decreasing brightness and selective burning of necessary areas on the face will make this perfect.

What a sweet old gentleman. I might work on his face - maybe doing some burn to the wrinkles and creases. I love his story too!!

WHY aren't you entering this one?!? Definitely a 6+ shot! I just might back off the brightness on his face a wee bit.

No kidding, this is a fantastic shot. I'm sure in Free Study voting I would have given this a 7 or 8. Good level of focus, with the background falling off nicely, and a glint in his eye.
