The sun is obscenely generous
as the horizon approaches it.
Trees are embarrassed by their garments.
I wonder if the loss of you
has lightened the world.

I think the door might open all the way,
the ground become a second sky,
the world become a road
going everywhere at once,
which is only to itself.

White knuckles on a steering wheel,
pearls in the parlor,
impressions on a thick rug.

The things that slipped from you
are yours again. You dream
with your eyes open.

This photo really conveys the idea of someone you cherish slipping away. The title is perfect, too. I hope you have many happy memories as you help her at the end.

Thank you for rambling! :) Gracie's doing much better than she was, but she's an old dog with kidney problems, so we don't know how long she has.

I'm marking this as a favorite mostly because of the poem. It is rainbow-bridge-esque in a way. Just odd that I stumbled across this because several weeks ago we found out that our first furbaby has lymphoma and our vet gave him 6 months to live. So we have been watching our 11 year old beagle boy go thru chemo and seizures and it makes you wonder if you made the right call. Anyway - I cannot tell from here what the back story is but I hope your dog is doing ok! Thanks for sharing! (Sorry for rambling!)

I think this would have been better if it had been converted to black and white.

yes, this is an original poem... it's even written by me... ;)

don't ask me what the pearls mean. I may be changing that line.

Everything unfolds in it's own time. When the time comes, as it will for us all, the angels with gather to bear witness on the passing of the animals we love and gently carry them to a place we cannot. Thankfully, this time did not come for you, so enter into the spirit of gratefulness and remember how this dog's very shadow makes you happy.

It is so hard to lose them, but life just wouldn't be as rich without them. Glad your girl is still with you.

As much as I love shooting my cats, I didn't play in this thread for kinda the same reason you noted. I love the premature eulogy here - is it original? I'll add that I'm glad you still have Grace with you. I've put down three so far in my adult life - a dog (15) and two cats (15 and 16) - and its nearly impossible to do. The single biggest defect pets have is they just don't live long enough.

I will say that they do visit me on occasion in dreams, which is simply delightful beyond words.

Say hi to Gracie for me.

I'm glad you didn't lose her.
And I like your picture of her.
Almost surreal.
