Makes 4 servings Prep: 20 minutes Grill: 14 minutes
Ingredients
1 clove garlic, minced, or 2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons catsup
1 tablespoon steak sauce
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon sugar, 1 teaspoon cooking oil, 1 teaspoon vinegar
Few dashes bottled hot pepper sauce
1 pound lean ground beef
1/4 teaspoon salt, 4 hamburger buns
American cheese slices (optional), Lettuce leaves (optional)
Tomato slices (optional), Red onion slices (optional), Pickle slices (optional)
Directions
1. For sauce, in a small saucepan combine garlic or onion, catsup, steak sauce, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, cooking oil, vinegar, and hot pepper sauce. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes. Remove from heat; set aside.
2. In a medium mixing bowl combine ground beef, salt, and pepper; mix well. Shape meat mixture into four 3/4-inch-thick patties.
3. To Cook by Indirect Grill Method: In a covered grill arrange preheated coals around a drip pan. Test for medium heat above the pan. Place meat on the grill rack over the drip pan. Cover and grill for 20 to 24 minutes or until instant-read thermometer inserted in side of burger registers 160 degree F, turning once halfway through grilling time and brushing frequently with sauce during the last 5 minutes of grilling.
4. To Cook by Direct Grill Method: Grill meat on the grill rack of an uncovered grill directly over medium coals for 14 to 18 minutes or until no pink remains, turning once halfway through grilling time and brushing frequently with sauce.
5. To serve, split and toast the buns on the grill. Serve patties in buns with cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and pickle, if desired. Makes 4 servings.
Make-Ahead Tip: Prepare sauce; cover and chill up to 24 hours. Prepare and shape burgers. Cover with plastic wrap and chill up to 2 hours before grilling.

The presentation works well for you. You've managed the details to make them really strong. The grinder is a wonderful touch. 8

wow - great shot - looks like an outdoor barbecue - wish I lived where you are - it's 9 degrees outside right now - and I could go for a nice fresh grilled burger from outside! The very fresh ground beef coming out of the grinder weirds me out a little bit when everything else seems so prepared and ready - love the colors though - and the flames in the background are an excellent touch - nice work and good luck :)

Very nice set up, but the streak above the flame is distracting

Great picture. Everything here looks appeitzing, well almost everything. Raw meat never appeals to me, even when I am cooking it. This is a great picture. I love how you set it up. The lighting is good, great focus and I really like the flames in the backround. back for a second time and bumping up your score

Could put this shot in a gormet magazine. Should have cored that tomato or turned it around though. 9

Very nice arrngement and the fired grill soft focused in the background is very nice. This meets the challenge especially well in that you visually display a recipe for your hamburger. Very nicely done.

I love every look of this photo, I'd only say the eye is drawn all over the place by the multiple subjects. Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing...

I liked the general presentation. The vegetables and cheese on a toasted bun was very appetizing looking, and the grill as a background was a very nice touch. Whatever that stuff is on the right, though, kind of wrecks the picture for me. It may be hamburger being run through a grinder, but it does nothing for the overall image.

I really like the colors and the crisp focus. Love that you included the fire of the grill in the background. Can't say that I have ever thought of raw hamburger as very attractive but works here. Good luck

Love the flames in the background. Nice change from the stark plain colours usually used.

Best DOF I've seen yet. Great composition, even with all the small elements it doesn't give the feeling of being busy. The bbq and flame are the perfect backdrop

Wonderful composition, right on the money! Nice crisp image, great DOF, nice choice of background with the flames. It's all put together for what should be a winning image. Congratulations in advance! ;^)

don't like composition, and the cheese doesn't look good. Colors are great. I like the fire in the back. 7

I see you really know how to make them. Like the addition of the toasted bun. Nits are the top tomato slice shown is at the stem (not as nice looking)and the cheese is individually packaged American cheese slices rather than cut from a block of cheese.

Nice presentation except I would not have included the raw meat. It is not appetizing. The flames in the background are great.
