Thanks for all the good comments and all the encouragement. This is my first picture here on DPC, and I'm looking forward to the next one.

For a score under 5 you sure got your share of comments. That means you make people look, think. That is and must be one of the goals of photography. Even if they feel uncomfortable with the image because it breaks their strict rules of composition and lighting. Even more so.

interesting colors

Image was really overexposed near the foreground, and too softly focused. our building in the background came out pretty good, though.

over xposed

I'm quite sure this will not score well here, but it gets my vote. I find the foreground blurring in this case very interesting and I think this is a strong image. Don't allow peer pressure to influence your work too greatly. You have a good eye.

The building is beautifully exposed, but the overexposed foreground it too distracting.

A tough shot to take. By leaving the shutter open longer you get a nice night shot of the building, but over-expose the skaters. Less exposure time would have improved the skaters but lost the building.

It seems that the foreground and the building in the backgroud don't match visually. Not that they always have to, but the blurriness and overexposure of the ice and skaters make them look somewhat like ghosts. I find the foreground amusing, yet the background seems to be a serious study. I suppose that kind of contrast would work sometimes, but personally I don't see the need for it here.

neat shot. Wish the people were not so blurry and white.

This would be really interesting if just one of the skaters was in focus.

Your skaters are horribly over-exposed, whereas the building, in the background, looks good. This doesn't really work, as the skaters are the more interesting of the shot, and end up playing second fiddle to the architecture.

Too blurry in foreground, dark in background

The exposure on the building is very good, but the skaters seem too overexposed to me. (Not sure if / how you could expose both properly at the same time.)

Hmmm...blew out the bottom highlights, which makes it rather distracting.

Composition is ok. The choice of subject matter is ok. The image quality is a little below average. - 5

Such a quiet lonely building and busy busy people... I like the colors. The compo is great too.

I like the inclusion of "life" in the shot, both by including people in general and also the motion blur. Looks like a tough exposure decision - I kind of like your choice of over-exposing the ice and people to include the buiding better.

Overexposed.

Kennedy Plaza!! I like the blurred pedestrians. I'd like the lighting to be a bit more dramatic. It is quite overexposed in the area of the square. Extra point because this is my home turf!

burn out is too much for me sorry

the focus seems soft on this entire image and the whites at the bottom are too blown out

ice rink is way washed out. the motion blur is a nice idea for the skaters

oooh, tough exposure... must have worked a while to get this shot. I like it. I wish that one person in the green top and jeans weren't there, but hey, when you are working with a lot of people that aren't posing for you, you get random actions. Good work!

I found the blow-out of white from the ice really difficult. I know that is what you are trying to capture, it just feels like it was missed slightly. The focus on the buildings in the background really quite good. If it was taken two stops back this wouldn't have happened .. that is the problem with basic editing.
