Challenge: The Egg (Classic Editing)
Camera: Canon PowerShot G3
Location: my kitchen (France)
Date: Feb 28, 2003
Aperture: 5.6
Shutter: 1/2 s
Galleries: Still Life
Date Uploaded: Mar 1, 2003

Quail and hen eggs (i did not found dove eggs).
Natural light, near the window of my kitchen, with drawing paper under eggs.

Honestly i found the title after. A the beginning were only eggs, and my wife had the suggestion to add a hammer. I took one and made a shot. After i replaced the hammer by this tool to soft the meat, which i do not know the name in english.
I found it more suggestive.

The title for the challenge came during the sunday.

I have an old hammer a lot like that...modeled after a "war hammer" I saw in an old book.

Choice of color and composition in this image is excellant. The soft shadow is terrific.

It is difficult to create a color image with the same balance of light and shadow that monochrome images have when they are rated high. But this images does it beautifully. I really like the combination of browns that set this image a cut above the others.

My fellow political/symbolic photographer! Well done. Symbolism is clear, to me at least, and the composition, lighting and shadows compliment it well.

And the big egg would be??? LOL!! I live in one of the little eggs and our warships just headed off. Original idea - nice lighting.

excellent still life... the angle of the tool and the gradient lighting is working very well here.. - setzler

Good eggs. Tthe hammer head is overexposed on one side, under at the other. Perhaps a reflector to get some light back from this side would have helped.

Unclear about the statement you are making here...it would seem you have a fairly strong political opinion but this message is not coming through for me...still a pretty nice photo overall.

Like the political commentary you are going for in this photo. It comes out very clearly.
