Hello,
I live in Iceland and I'm going to LA in June and I was wondering if you knew of some Photo Exhibitions, photo stores or anything fun conected to photography in LA ?

There is a ton of stuff to check out, but I guess the three biggest places in LA, and not necessarily the best, are:

-The Getty, which you should check out even if they don't have an exhibit you'd like to see, because it's such a beautiful place.
-Los Angeles County Museum of Art
Museum of Contemporary Art

Those are the big three here, but there are a ton of galleries and shows here. When you get here pick up an LA Weekly and look through it to see where stuff is.

I did a quick google search with the following:

photography + "Los Angeles" + exhibition + June + 2005

One of the links is:

You will probably find others and those in LA will probably have some suggestions.

Besides the normal tourist stuff, I.E., Hollywood Blvd, Sunset Blvd., Rodeo Blvd., Universal City Walk,

check out the not so tourist traps, I.E. 3rd street prominad in Santa Monica, Santa Monica Peir, The Getty Center, Muscle beach, Venice Beach,
any of the studios have tours.

OR, go down town LA in the market district and there always is promising photography there. Just wear a flack jacket.

Good luck.

I'd definitely recommend the 3rd streed prominade in Santa Monica. Go on a weekend, in the evening. It's a veritable street circus out there.

I don't know about photo exhibits specifically, but there is the LA Museum of Arts that will feature King Tut starting in June (I think). They only let you take pictures of their own art work though.
As for fun places to shoot, I'd recommend Hollywood Blvd/Mann's Chinese Theater/Kodac Theater complex. 3rd Street Prominade and the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, Getty Museum, Huntington Library & Garden, LA Zoo, and Downtown LA/Olvera Street, Wilshire Blvd at night with large neon signs, Disney Concert Hall in Downtown, Universal Studios/Universal Citywalk, and Disneyland.
As for Photo stores, there is nothing here like B & H in New York, perhaps the Samy's Camera or Canoga Camera Store, there is another large camera store in Westwood by UCLA that I can't remember the name of.
You can do an internet search for these to see what you like.
Check out the Out and about section of the forum for us folks in LA. We'd love to have others join us to shoot.

If you're into botanicals and such, check out these:

Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens

Los Angeles Arboretum

Descanso Gardens

And if you need camera equipment while you're here, there's
Samy's Camera

The LA Zoo is under a lot of construction but there's still a lot of animals to shoot (better if it's overcast). Here's a few:

Hope this helps.

Los Angeles is very diverse and geographically large. If you have certain things you like to photograph (e.g. street candids, flower, etc), I'd recommend you research the recommended areas and pick where you want to visit.
What kind of photography do you like to do most?

I'd recommend a chain of photography stores called Samy's Camera. You can do an internet search for their location to develop your films/slides.

They are a photography specialty store. They sell/rent photographic equipment and also develop films/slides.
