Well some of the people here have friends on DPC and perhaps they want to keep in touch. I guess you could say, Just because you have your reasons for not wanting something that does not mean other people do not have reasons for actually wanting it.

I think you're missing the point and I'm sorry you don't see things from the other side but my point remains that finding out someone's last login has absolutely nothing to do with the betterment of this site and is a pointless usage of whatever resources are available to the programming staff. What reason could there be for seeing someone's last login other than curiosity? Feel free to PM me with answers.

You're all jumping on the 'there's no such thing as privacy' bandwagon, like a snowball gathering grit but again, the point remains that the facility you want to include has nothing to do with the site's functionality.

I haven't followed all the viewpoints here, but I'd just like to offer my "professional opinion" that there is very little chance of such a site modification, and that only The Shadow knows what we'll see in DPC3 ...

No need for anyone to get upset over something which hadn't even occurred to you last week.

Well I hope DPC3 provides universal healthcare or I'm outta here.

I LOVE this answer! This could be the answer to so many threads around here!

Just because you want it doesn't mean we need to have it. :)

There are a multitude of ways to let your DPC friends know you're online, you don't need DPC for that.

Are we headed towards making DPC a social networking portal?

For those who want to know...

I'm online now and about to go for a crap. Then I'll brew another cup of coffee and head to work later on after removing earwax from my nose. I'll sign in later on to let you all know how my crap went. Stay tuned. :)

Have you ever attended a DPC GTG? I've met several people on DPC and then later at GTG's which would be considered Social Activity. So really it is a social networking site for photographers. For me the idea is not about checking up on you or anyone else because truthfully I don't care. But I do think it would be cool to know if some of the people who I have met here that haven't been active recently are still visting the site or if they left the site for good. Anyway it was only a suggestion. No need for people to get paranoid about it and put on the tinfoil hats.

My hat is made of lead, tinfoil lets the microwaves go through and affect my braincells.

There are other ways to know if your friends are active or not. Look at their profile and scroll down to see their forum activity for one. Look at their commenting stats. Look at their upload stats. There, three ways to see if your buddies are online. :)

Well, you can already see if someone is logged in or not (profile page), and the duration (Who's Online). I thought this would be a helpful feature as sometimes I'll run across an image from a prior challenge or forum thread and look at the photographer's profile...only to see they haven't entered a challenge in awhile. A glance at the forum thread postings (bottom of their profile page) will sometimes give a clue as to how long it's been since they've been active at DPC.

Repeated this post from earlier in response to Jac's last post...

It's not so much if they're online now or not (you can tell that instantly looking at the profile page or by mousing over their username in a forum thread)...for me this feature would be handy to know if someone has totally abandoned DPC or maybe they've just quit entering challenges and/or posting to the forums.

What's the point in having the Web site suggestions forum area if no one looks at them or none of them are discussed among us?
