very happy here... thanks.

Best news I have heard here for a while, though I think the open challenges should be 720x720 perhaps. But great move...now to revamp the look of the website which is WAY overdue.

Woooo Hoooo!! That is totally awesome. It will be sad to see some of the folks that vowed to quit DPC if this happend leave, but change is good and I am glad that the day is finally here.

Thanks Langdon! Quality take a bow. Image thieves will be just as grateful! (please work on that watermark option where member's can tickbox a yes/no option and a dpchallenge watermark gets x'd over the image)

F11, or View / Full Screen. That feature has been around almost since day one.
I can only imagine what kind of server and bandwidth you guys have at GoDaddy...and now with the doubling of file size for Basic and increasing it for advanced, must be costing a packet, unless you have a fixed rate for unlimited b/w!

Thx GIE, was a bit hasty on the way to drop off kids...correct, GoDaddy is the registrar, Sargasso the host. Still doesn't answer my veiled Q though ;p

Woohoo!!!! Now what I am gonna bitch about? Anyway, here comes my $25. Thanks Langdon!

Great. Thanks for that.
I don't have to create a seperate versions for DPC challenges now.

Thanks for the good news, Langdon. I think that the open challenges would have been fine at 720 x 720, though.
As Christmas is coming up, I'd love watermarking and darker backgrounds in my stocking...

Excellent news! Thanks, Langdon.

Do you watermark your portfolio images now???

Let's NOT ruin the viewing experience.

I agree. I was against the 800 limit but now that it's coming I'll have to grin and bear it (and scroll). And no, I'm not going to get a new monitor for my office, nor a new laptop for home.

Let's NOT ruin the viewing experience.

She said "after a challenge has ended" - I agree.

ETA - If it was setup correctly, the watermark would be applied post-challenge based on an option flag (set in user preferences as a yes/no). If you're worried about how others view your challenge entry post-challenge, don't let the auto-watermark apply to yours. As for portfolio vs challenge entry images...some people may not put their best work in their DPC portfolio, yet still want to be competitive in challenges (by submitting better work).

I'm not having any trouble reading what she said, I'm against the whole watermark thing in the first place.

If you're worried, don't post and/or enter.

It's not this site's responsibility to be paranoid about your entries, and like it or not, it does detract from the viewing experience.

If it's such an issue, why do you post images and enter challenges?

There are literally millions of photographers out there, both amateurs & pros, most of who post on the Web, and really, it goes back to that whole lost revenue thing again......can you honestly say that you've lost money from images you've had stolen?

The site is DP Challenge, A Digital Photography Contest

We're here to compete, completely voluntarily, and if the site's operations don't suit, well, nobody's holding a gun to your head.

With the exception of Jason's issue with the billboard in Australia, and a couple of isolated sites that steal the low res images, piracy just isn't an issue.

It's your responsibility to protect your images. Register them with the appropriate copyright offices, and be prepared to go to court. Don't make this about the site, because it isn't. If your images are that desirable and valuable in your opinion, then take the necessary steps yourself to protect them.

Great news about the larger size allowance.
About the watermarks. There is another way I believe. I came across a site some time ago where there is some sort of protection in place so that you cannot drag an image to your desktop. When you try you just get a tiny little patch on your desktop that says something like "thief proof" Not sure how it works. Must be something to do with the software the site uses.

I wonder if it is time for another poll.

A poll that might settle the issue of watermarking once and for all.

1. Do you want Challenge entries to be watermarked when the Challenge is over?
2. Do you want Challenge entries to remain forever without a watermark?

Screen capture overcomes that obstacle, so, it is worthless.

Kind folks, we are considering the watermarking idea. Please keep the discussion limited to the topic at hand. If you want to continue the watermark discussion, create a new thread (or find one of the many existing threads).
