I've just bought a twin lens reflex camera in kit form. All the instructions are in Japanese, of course, but I'm looking forward to putting it together when I have time. ;-Þ

I'll keep things ticking over with another from the Rover:

This weekend I've started putting a film through an Agiflash, as seen in my Photographing Photographers entry

Ha! I forgot about that. For the others, when Deb produced the lame excuse that she didn't have a toy camera, I PM'ed her and offered to send her one. The camera I sent her is pictured here with a brief description. Around this time, I had just picked up the Photoflex camera that I've been using, and noticed they were very similar, probably from the same manufacturer. So I had one to spare. To insure no further delays, I even sent her film.

I can't wait to see what you get!

Sarah ( salmiakki), yes, good idea. Let's plan on going through December. I suggested that somewhere else, as we seem to have some people gradually developing interest, getting gear, etc.

Here's another one from the Photoflex. I saved what I think is the best shot for last, and will upload it Monday or Tuesday. Also, the Smena 8m pictures I got back today look more promising than the first roll, so look for those soon as well.

Well, here's the camera I put together. It remains to be seen what the results will be, photo-wise.

Well, my first roll of 35 mm shot through my converted Holga 120N did not turn out so well. I taped over the film counter window, but apparently not well enough. Used Kodak 400 color film here, developed in Rodinal with a splash of color developer added for good measure. Never tried that before, don't think I will again. Focal point is the branches in front, intended to focus on the building. v500 scan as color negative.

While I don't finish my current Black Devil film roll, I thought I could share a roll developed in late October.

Ok, so got my 35mm film back...

they weren't able to scan much. As it was taken with a holga it read it as a panoramic, so butchered most of my crappy shots... then they didn't scan them all... here is one they didnt for which I took a shot of the negative and inverted in PS...I'm sure there is a better waty of doing this as the paper texture is apparrent and it is blue.

: )

have you looked into a flatbed scanner that can do negatives? some of them really aren't that expensive. for holga shots, and sprocket holes, try to find one that comes with a medium format film holder. or you could just put the negatives flat on the glass with a piece of glass on top of them. look out for newton rings though ;)

also, when i got my sprocket hole shots developed at the drug store, i told them specifically not to cut them or try to print them or anything.

Cheers Steef...

X-mas is right around the corner innit? I will prob get one as it will most definitely save me money in the long run.

Oh - If you have any shots you'd like to share please do so!

i just went through 2 rolls with my holga when i was in central park this weekend. i just need to mix up new chems and develop them. i'm probably going to do it tonight, so hopefully tomorrow or so i'll have some new shots to share. i have a bunch of old stuff on flickr if you're interested in poking around... Film Collection. i think there's some stuff missing in there though :(

I photo my negatives, as a film scanner that takes medium format seems a bit expensive for something I'd only get occasional use out of. I use a cardboard box lined with white paper about 1 metre behind the negative and point a flash gun at it.

You should be a able to google up a PS action/tutorial to do the colour correction. We've been having a discussion about doing this in Gimp over on Meet The Gimp Forum, where this link was posted, but to summarise it involves picking a black-point and white-point and applying curves to the colour channels.

Apparently the process has been patented

I am in a bit of a funk as far as inspiration goes... It will pass I hope.

Found some old bulbs to try out the flash on my Polaroid 340.

took my holga to central park last weekend. there was a guy blowing giant bubbles with this contraption made from 2 sticks and some rope. it was pretty awesome. this was my favorite shot of the day. i put a few more in my portfolio if you'd like to poke around.

also, just curious, for the purposes of this thread, are shots from my polaroid one step acceptable?

No serious photographer would use one of those. So go for it!

I've put a film through the Agiflash:

I was experimenting with the development, trying a longer time in a more dilute developer to see if there was any difference in grain/shadow detail but the negatives came out looking a little thin.

The first of some pictures I'll be sharing from the Smena 8M. The Smena is a Soviet-era camera -- fully manual with a decent glass lens, but a flimsy plastic body. There's no focus aid; you guess how far away your subject is or use the zone focusing icons. My first roll of film through it was mostly out of focus, so for this, my second roll, I used 800 speed film so that I could stop down and increase DOF. I got better results, but I can't say I'm in any hurry to use it again.
