I am going to be in DC for a training May 20 - 23. As of right now, I do not know my itinerary at all except that we fly in on the 20th, out on the 23rd and we are staying in Springfield.

I know a big ole chunk of the day I will be in classes at the Holocaust Museum, but I don't know about evenings and stuff.

Any ideas or suggestions?

DC has so much to offer it's hard to know where to begin a reply. Are you hoping for a GTG? I welcome almost any excuse to go down there. Many of the monuments/memorials are lit at night and have provided night-shoot opportunities in the past. There are also a gazillion good places to eat as well... What are you hoping for?

I was "hoping" the organizer and "sponsor" of this trip would give me a bit more detail about schedules, etc so that some of us could get together, if "free time" is scheduled into the training I'm going to.

To date, I know that we are meeting at RDU airport in Raleigh, NC at noon tomorrow (20th), flying to DC, then leaving on Friday the 23rd around the same time.

Oh, and I'm staying at the Hilton in Springfield.

That is literally all I know at this point. :)

So, if any of you are extremely flexible, I'll try to post tomorrow night and maybe we can get together.

Otherwise, I'll just smile and wave at everyone I see and hope one of them is a dpc'er. hahahahahha

I'm in the area too, but I've moved a little farther out for cheaper rent. I've hung out with KaDi, she's shady. watch out for her :p

springfield is SO far out but try checking out

Mt Vernon
Arlington Cemetery
National Mall / Monuments
Georgetown and Exorcist Steps
Dupont Circle
North Arlington along the Orange Line
National Gallery of Art
National Botanical Gardens
National Zoo

All of these things are pretty much free or cheap and along metro stations. I love living in DC :)

Shady? I've never been called that before...at least I don't think so...

Unfortunately, I won't be available this week for any sort of meet-up as I'm busy packing for my own trip.

I'll watch the thread, though, and chime in if I think I can be helpful. Hope the trip to DC is better than planned! ;-)

In defense of the "planner," it really isn't supposed to be a "tourist" trip, but rather a training of sorts.

Most of my time will be spent at the Holocaust Museum.

Oh, you're gonna' need a break to do something uplifting if you're training at the Holocaust Museum.

Conveniently, I live in Springfield (it's not Siberia, for heaven's sake!) and am pretty flexible this week from Wednesday to Friday. If you want wildlife or purty flowers or historical stuff there's tons nearby. I could probably even find some boats ;-) The immediate area around the Hilton ... not so interesting, although I know some good places to eat nearby.

Now, there is a woman who knows what priorities are. :)

I gathered that from the website. :)

When I know a bit more about my schedule, I'll be in touch.

He-he :-) Too bad you won't be here next week for the Cardboard Boat Regatta. I don't suppose we could schedule Boats II to cover that LOL?
