As long as the focal length is right, a macro lens is often a terrific portrait lens. I don't hesitate to use my 100/2.8 Macro for portraits.

depends on the type of portrait. for a single person you want some telephoto, for a group you often have to go wide(r) to get everybody in the pic.

I like a 70-200 2.8 for portraiture.

yeah, I want to stay away from EF-S because i still use my film camera.

Thats a cracking lens! I read somewhere its something like the second sharpest lens canon have ever made! I think .Rikki has some fantastic shots using this as a 'regular lens'. Some others that you could consider are:
Sigma 105mm

Tamron 90mm

Canon EF-S 60mm

If I had the money I'd get the 100mm canon... I didnt so I got the EFS 60mm and its a fantastic lens. You can always try Reversing a Lens or using extension tubes, but beware EFS lenses cant be used with extension tubes.

It's a great lens! You'll love it. Works well for portraits as well as macro shots.

Well, I am in the market for a new lens.

I have been thinking a lot about this guy Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro.

So, I guess I have sopme questions about Macro...

Are there any limitations? I do a lot indoors with stage events and such, will this work like a regular lens with macro capabilities added on?

For those lovely bug Macro's, (kyebosh's Bug Love), will I need additional attachments such as a magnifier?
