Challenge: Once in a Blue Moon (Advanced Editing I)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Location: Lake Murray, California
Date: Jul 31, 2004
Aperture: 7.1
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/400
Galleries: Animals
Date Uploaded: Jul 31, 2004

I am pretty new to the Digital Rebel, and the only lenses I've had are the kit lens and the 50mm 1.8. Today I remembered I have a cheap, plastic Canon 35-80 EF f/4-5.6 III from a dozen years ago with my (film) Rebel G. I thought I'd give it a go at a nearby lake and see if I could produce a decent picture. This dragonfly landed nearby and gave me nearly a dozen shots, and this was the best of the lot.

Cropped, adjusted levels, saturated blue just a bit, USM, and that's it.

This is the second dragon fly pic I chose for my top five. Great detail and color.

This is a superb damselfly. Great pose, great focus on the eyes. The wings are delicate but perfectly focused too. The background is very distracting - and, since this is advanced editing, could easily be toned down or blurred.

Several aspects make this shot stand out (lacy wings, crisp focus on the head, detail in the legs and body) the background sets it off very well. Composition is strong. One of my ribbon picks this challenge. Good luck

Great macro. Sharp focus and nice color. Good DOF and placement of the subject so the background doesn't interfere with it.

Absolutley awsome. Would love to know how long you had to take this shot. Nice detail. Good dof to keep the whole Dfly in focus!

Great shot with the wings so forward to expose its body.

Beautiful shot -- and this comes from someone who also entered a blue dragonfly in this challenge!
