Photo was taken over the train tracks in lower downtown denver. You can see a version of the same image, with not such extreme editing here:

I think that editing it like this gave it more of a unique feel to it, but I to the end hated the noise in the sky. Still I been wanting to try different things on DPC, things that are more unique and have more than the normal colour adjustments.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

'Tis almost a bit unfair that I drew this one, as I loved this in voting, and still do. You were in my top tier of vote getters in this challenge - as I said before, I love the quietness of this. There's a peacefulness here, an isolation. I see that another commenter interpreted it as lonely - and it could be seen that way as well.

Many didn't like the noise in the photo, others did. Hard to please everyone when it comes to digital noise. I think it works well for this photograph but I see from your notes that you don't like it. You could try going to the other extreme here - use a good noise removal tool (Neat Image, for instance) or a "glow" kind of process to completely soften everything up. Would render a completely different feel. You could also try converting to monochrome (but then I am a B&W person at heart, so keep that in mind when weighing that option!)

Pleased to see that after having been a user at DPC for quite awhile you're taking a more active role in challenges - I look forward to seeing more of your entries in the future!

I like the gritty feel to this, accentuated by the absence of light.

did you add grain here or is that camera effect?

Very nicely captured, great composition and lovely processing. I like the stark light and colors that really convey the industrial feel well.

I basically like the shot, but I'm a little lost for a focal point, and it seems to have a strange irridescence.....at least on my monitor.....5

Nice leading lines (quite literally here!), Although the noise and rather dull subject matter will only earn a 5 today. Tons of chroma noise here, my guess is that this was done on a point and shoot, mind you that's why you're getting a 5, if I thought this was an SLR I might go for a 4.. Please don't hate me, I just think you should know why I'm scoring your image as I am.

I really like this composition. I never would have thought that color noise could be used so well! I like everything about this.

Very nice industrial type shot. The grain(noise) really gives the effect of polution.

Interesting processing here. Lots of noise but sure this was on purpose? whites lite up this scene nicely broken by the rail lines. Nice comp with what was in front of you.

I love the feel to this shot. I'm pretty sure you'll get hassled by the graininess, but that aside I find it very appealing. 7

I quite love the peacefulness of this - although it is indeed industrialized, the way you've presented it is nice and quiet.

Good composition, the curve of the tracks leads you into the photo. A lot of grain in the sky, was it added in processing? Not sure I like it.

I like the leading lines of the train track the lead off to the vanishing point to the center of the photo. A picture showing the industrial elements of civilization. It is also blanketed in snow which in many cases makes the scenes look beautiful. One thing that strikes me is the stark loneliness - nothing is stirring (with the exception of the smoke stack), nothing is moving. The train is absent, there are no people. It is an lonely place. Funny enough I just did a class presentation of Edward Hopper's painting titled Approaching the City - the loneliness of the scene is comparable to his. One big problem with the visual is there is a ton of visible noise - red and faint blue noise is highly evident in the sky but I can see it in the snowy ground as well. Running this through a good noise reduction program would improve the imagery.

I love the muted colors and the grain in the sky. Feels like an old film print. Beyond that, you've captured the cold, quietude of an industrial setting in wintertime.

IMO a noise filter would really make this picture...but then maybe you wanted the graininess
