 I probably never would have noticed this cute pair had they not been pointed out by other members of the group, so thanks to all!
Processing:
Open RAW image and adjust color and brightness
Tonemap RAW image in Photomatix and bring in as new layer over RAW image
Blend to taste using layer mask
Color Efex Pro pro contrast
Color Efex Pro tonal contrast, then mask out everything but the birds
Darken background a bit
Desat background a bit
Levels adjustment layer
Crop, resize, save for web
