Thanks to everyone for their votes and comments.

This is my youngest daughter, taken at a playground while waiting for my other daughter's swim practice to end. I had taken the hat with us hoping to get a shot for this contest, and was thrilled to find that there had been a fall carnival the night before at the school, hence the hay bales.

A lot of people commented about the white areas in the background. They are actually buildings. There was no good angle to avoid them, so I set the fstop to the max (1.4) and blurred them out. You have to love a fast lens.

Interesting to see so many "nice bokeh" comments, whereas the bokeh here is third-rate - the circular highlights are rendered as well defined circles with hard edges.

Top 10, congrats!

At this point I have voted on a 152 photos and have seen a ton of kids with hats one. I am so glad to see a good one at this point, lol.

Great smile, focus and colors.

If this was a photo of my kid I would put it on my wall for everyone to see.

Very nice, love it.

Good luck.

Nice crisp, vibrant colors. The DOF really enhances the photo!

The subject is captured beautifully such clear focus, soft hues and a wonderful smile. It is such a shame that there is a large bleached squar right next to her sweet head. It is really distracting = 8

Great lighting and composition. The bokeh is distracting though and the huge area of bright on her right and to a lesser degree left are distracting. I would love to see the eyes brightened but I know this is basic editing only. I can't wait to see what lense was used. I've gone back and forth between 8 and 9...and I think I'll stick with 9 because of the emotion it stirs...

the girl resting her arms on, what looks like a bale of hay, is fantastic, sharp well positiond, but the big splash of washed out white, to the left is just too distracting

Great picture. The eye tends to wander to the bright areas in the background.

wonderful bokeh, really awesome...perhaps the composition isn't quite right and the shadow on the face is strong and I wish you had a couple of catchlights in the eyes, but apart from that she's gorgeous and really beautifully captured in a great setting 8

This is such a sweet photo: it's warm and well set up with lovely colour tones. I like it a lot, and I hope others think the same.

beautiful bokeh! Really makes the cute girl and her hat stand out would have otherwise been a busy background.

Beautiful! Lovely smile.

The only thing is the large white square of light is a bit distracting.

Great shot. I'm wondering if this is Scalverts. Regardless of whose it is, it is a wonderful shot, nice bokeh, cute model (I'm not one of those DPC child haters) and pretty good lighting. Score: 10. I have this as the Yellow Ribbon right now.
