This is Bernie, our deck chipmunk. Seriously. He lives under our front stoop and travels around the edge of the house to visit us when we're on the deck. He'll take peanuts straight from our hands, 2 to 4 at a time. Occasionally he'll want a finger instead, but he's pretty darn gentle.

After a long winter's rest from the deck I stepped outside on a beautiful March day. Within 5 minutes there he was, no fear, and he waited for me to go inside and get the bag of peanuts. After taking a few from my hand I decided not to waste the opportunity and set some on the ground so he'd pose for me. I'm not sure about world domination, but I suspect there was somewhere around 10lbs of peanuts in the underground bunker for last winter.

Was really happy with the image but not sure how well it would be received. I'm so glad so many liked it (and also wish Dennis had taken his Patagonia trip in February, LOL).

The "Donald" comments made me laugh because we had two of these guys on the deck last year and they got the name Bernie and Donald because of their willingness to share, or lack thereof. Donald didn't seem to make it through the winter, and I have to be honest and say that I'm disappointed that wasn't the case all around. ;)

Congrats Jake, we have a little squirrel who keeps busy cleaning the cones off our spruce trees. I don't feed him very often but last year I did slide him a few peanuts, he sat and ate them like he had died and gone to heaven. Congrats on the ribbon! Well deserved.

Congrats on the red, Jake. That little guy has personality plus, though I can imagine that his proximity could be a mixed blessing. Now, if I can only get our little ringtail possums to pose cutely for me...

Congrats Jake! Spectacular image.

Wanted to come back and add how much I loved reading your back story. I wish everyone would explain how the photos came to be, even just a little back story is great!

I gotta say this little fella looks like he's been caught red handed pawed.
Well done.
