Thanks for the votes. This is now my new personal best by about .2 and will likely be at the top for a long time!

I was visiting my mom in Alamosa, CO after having been in Albuquerque for the eclipse a week earlier. She asked what I wanted to do for the day we were there and I said I wanted to get up at 4:30 in the morning and drive over to the dunes (a 45 minute drive) to take photos of the sun rising. I know she thought I was crazy, but she went along with it. She saw this shot on facebook recently and said that it was worth getting up so early.

I get it that this is a bit overprocessed for some tastes. I edited about 10 different ways and finally settled on this one. I'm going to work up a more natural looking version without as much saturation and see what that looks like.

A beautiful picture of the dunes! I live in the San Luis Valley and love to photograph them.

How was your trip? It's a wonderful place, isn't it? I got one of my higher placings from my trip there last year. Did you venture far into the dunes? That's where you really get into the moonscape, the unknown.

Congrats on top 10. Really beautiful shot. I love the definition that the shadows give to the dunes.

such a stunning capture(s) but aspect ratio and way too hot overprocessing hurts this. 7. gl

Taken at a great time of day, has nice shadows on the dunes, sky is a little boring but you get what you get with skies. Overall a decent shot but to me the image looks way over processed, the early morning light glow is yellowish and not all the attractive especially in contrast to the back ground. 5

This is amazing. Your use of light and control over the contrast is great. Deserving of my highest marks so far... 9!
