I am looking to buy a used Canon 28-105mm f4 is usm lens from Craigslist. He wants $800.- for it. He says it is flawless. No guarantee. Would you trust something like that??? Or would spend an extra 100 and get it from like B&H or Adorama???? |

Being craigslist, is it in your area? Can you go see it and try it on your camera first? I have done many craigslist transactions, and the number one rule is try before you buy. |

For one eighth of the price, Ill take a one year guarantee and a return policy. If he was a friend, sure I'd take the 100 buck savings and buy used, but that isn't enough off the price that I would risk trusting some guy off Craig's list.
I bought a used 70-200 2.8 out of a store in Westwood. It all seemed fine until I was shooting that night and it started making a clump sound when I zoomed past the 100mm point. It went back the next day. Sometimes even trying it out for a few minuets isn't enough. |

Spend the extra $100.00... not worth the hassle of not knowing for certain and not having any form of recourse should things to wrong.

I have bought and sold dozens of lenses on eBay and Craigslist with out a problem. Of my current 8 lenses 7 are used. I personally think itmis worth it. If you get the lens and don't like it, resell it.
