If you twist a few tone curves around you'll probably end up with a psychedelic tie-dye effect. I like the effect, although I wish the white patches were smaller or had more detail -- maybe try the same shot with a one-stop smaller aperture?

If I want to try this with my camera I think it will have to be swinging at the end of a stick or something :)

the white part is a hazy sky, and lacked much detail.
i was looking straight up.

That's too bad ... if it's nearby you might try it when there's some nice clouds.

Mind if I see how it looks as a Grateful Dead album?

Here's a first go ... only took one RGB curve to mess it up that much :)

Took about five times as long to upload and link all the photos as it took to modify the picture. It too a lot of JPEG compression to fit it here, to I included a link to a version at pBase at best quality.

Hi, i noticed your zoom shot, and thought i'd chip in an idea. I've had success with longer exposures (5-10 sec) where I zoom for part of the exposure and then rest for part of it, resulting in detail plus the zoom effect. The only catch is, exposures this long will only work in low light unless you have some n/d filters. also you need a lens that doesn't change focus as you zoom if you really want some detail. I'd include an example, but the only time i've done this is with film, and this is a digital site!. Can't afford a dslr yet! :-( anyway, give it a shot, it's a nice effect.

You are welcome to post scanned images in your portfolio, just not to enter them in the challenges. You can even sell prints of them if you want.
