Who bought a new camera this year? Why did you choose this camera?
06/07/2004 10:17:44 PM · #2
Q1. Me!!!

Q2. It had the most bang-for-the-buck, was highly recommended by several fellow-DPCers, I could find very few negative reviews online about it, it had a 10x optical zoom lens, and I could put it on lay-a-way at Wally World! :o)

Me! See some of my reasons in my post in this thread.

I did, and I readed lots of forums, compared lots of reviews and even pictures, befor I chose my F717. I didn't want to spend extra money on lenses or such, also I wait until I'm a better photographer to get a DSLR, so after all comparisons I made I got the F717 wich I still belive it is the best fixed lense camera in it's price. I'm 100% pleased with it and for now it's all I need.

Me. I chose the D70 because I heard good things about it, and it felt good and well balanced. I'm really happy with it, and glad I've made the transition to SLR photography.

ME-ME-ME!!! I love my 10D!!

(also, since buying it, my skill in rhyming has increased dramatically)

I did! I love my new camera and my kids are pleased because they have my old camera. My daughter (5) has already taken about 50 photos. She is going to be a little photographer someday. My son (15) took some sweet shots of his frog, turtles and mice. Oh, ya..about my new camera. I am learning so much and I even bought a new lens a few weeks ago to go with it. 80-200mm. Works great.

Me too. Me too. (Actually my husband bought it for me :0). I already had a Rebel 2000 SLR, and was hoping the learning curve wouldn't be too steep with the Digital form. Oh well, I can still climb!!! I love it - my kids tease me because I take it everywhere with me. I've taken almost 8,000 pictures since January. (I HAVE to take a lot because I'm learning, right???). I read a lot of reviews (raves) about the camera before it was purchased and actually got to take a few pictures with one a friend of mine purchased (and flaunted big time) before I got mine. That was like waving Cadbury bars under a chocolate-starved dieter's nose. My son inherited my Toshiba, and my husband now uses the Digital Rebel. I keep thinking I might take some film pictures to stay in practice, but then I think why?

I did.

Because it is a digital SLR, 6 megapixel, had all the features I wanted, and lastly, because I couldn't get my hands on a Canon EOS 10d fast enough. I don't regret the Nikon D100 at all - in fact I'm liking it very much. (Maybe there was a good reason for my not being able to get the Canon EOS 10d. If there is, I'm sure I'll learn why someday.....)

I just recieved my sony 828 today!!! I love it. I had a 717 for a while, and wanted something more substantial.

This is very embarassing: My-son-the-marine totaled my car. I took the meager settlement, spent $100 on a new car and the rest on an Olympus E-1.

I bought a new camera this year as well.

Came back to team Canon (300D) after a year with the Sony crew. Reason why I chose Canon is contained in part of my profile bio.

Where on earth did you get a reliable car for $100??? I could use a deal like that! Also, how do you like your E-1? Have they come out with any new lenses for that cam?

I had my F717 for about a year before I got my grubby lil hands on the 10D. I still love my F717 and will continue to use it but I just LOVE my 10D and especially the 24-70 2.8 L lens. That lens is simply amazing. I just received new toys today, too! I ordered a Hoya Pro1 circular polarizer and two Op/Tech straps (for the camera and the tripod).

Anywho, long story short, the camera and the 28-105 3.5-4.5 lens were an early birthday/Christmas present from my parents for a few years (or so they say-they always forget and still get me something). When I opened the manual, I knew this was going to be a STEEP learning curve for me even though I've used film SLRs before.

I also bought a package from B&H for my folks: Canon S410, 256MB CF card and CP-200 printer for their birthdays. I also bought a second S410 in case they fight too much or I might just end up keeping it for myself just like jmsetzler said, it's very cute. Both my F717 and 10D are not exactly pocket-sized so I do need a compact camera and what better camera than an Elph?
