This might not be welcome here however what about doing some type of instant messaging within people who are online?

If you are not a fan of talking to strangers, you can just be "away" or "invisible" but this could be used for talking about the next challenges or just everyday things like what you saw when you were out shooting one day.

Any thoughts... This just came up to me so I haven't really thought of the bad things yet.

There WAS a fairly popular, unofficial DPC chat room for a while. I used to hang out there. manic ran it, I think. But it kind of petered out, as far as I know.

I remember that but I also remember that when I was ever on there would only be 1 or 2 people online and sometimes even none. I just thought this would be a good opportunity to let us amateurs ask questions to people we look up to.

It could be set up just like Facebook's chat where you can be invisible if you choose not to participate. I think this would be very helpful to not only me but many people.

Let it be like facebook's chat, but NOTHING LIKE FACEBOOK'S CHAT. Facebook's chat is a horrible, broken mess.

Haha! I agree.. There are so many times when it messes up.. but it could be similar in what you can do with it. ;)

Are you looking for a chat room, where everyone can log in and out at will, or a chat client like Yahoo Messenger, where we can open group chats up to a certain number of people?

OK people, feel free to let yourselves in, and last one to leave the room please remember to turn out the lights. I think it stays alive without me or anyone in it. I'm currently the admin of it, though if anyone prefers to take it over....

This will do til something better comes along, and it's free.

We've already had 9 distinct visitors, come check us out...

If you decide to check it out and nobody's there, come back and bump this thread and see if someone joins you. It takes a while to bring a chat room to critical mass...

Irc is a cool alternative. Most IM clients have that as an option. A free one I've used in the past for a channel was hosted by SynIrc. They also have a web based chat client page //cgiirc.synirc.net/irc.cgi. It's live and very fast. If we all point to #dpchallenge (on a random SynIrc server) we can chat there. I don't want to split up chat from the site Bear posted but just wanted to offer a suggestion. I'll meeet you all at Chatzy page Bear setup.

For those interested, here's the original DPC Chat, DPC Fanatics. I check from time to time, but no one is ever there anymore. There used to be quite a crowd in there fairly regularly, especially at rollover.

Argle-bargle, or foo-ferah?

Very cool.

Actually, I own a domain and I set up phpMyChat for conversations. Once, I used it to talk with a DPC user who was having issues with processing a photo. Worked well. Hopefully, this site that Robert set up would do the same.

I used to live on IRC in the nineties... when I got my MacBook, I installed a command-line irc client and dumped an old copy of LiCe in my home directory that I'd saved since then... it was a real blast from the past, but for OSX's inability to render fixed system fonts properly. Other than that, haven't used it in ages.
