Hi, I've been trying to get my reversed 50mm to do some macro shots, but seem to be getting a white hotspot in the middle of every shot. Anyone else had this issue or know what would cause it?
I am also using extension tubes. Could the light be getting in somewhere along the way?

| Not sure what type of extension tubes you are using, but Kenko extension tubes + 105 mm Nikon micro lens works well. I have never used extention tubes with reversed lenses, but seems you may be pushing the envelope a bit too far. If light were leaking in I would think you would get some sort of flare coming in from the perimeter rather than a central light spot. But all this is pure speculation. |

Hi Rob!
Well, does this happens in every light situation?
Remember that the glass on the back of the lens is not receded into the lens body as the front element usually is, so you could be suffering from lens flare (it's easier to happen with reverse mounted lenses).
Alas, no hood can fit tightly, but you might find some that matches the outside.
Try a photo with your back to the sun, and see if the problem persists.
PS - are the extension tubes between the lens and the body? Just to make sure.

| Take several shots with long exposures with your lens cap on. If you see any flaring or any light in the image then you have a leak. Check the tubes for a tight fit at the camera mount. |

| hi Rob not sure how old your post is ,but i have just solved a hot spot problem by rolling up a piece of thin dark cloth from an old packaging box and sliding it inside my homemade extension tube, i have,nt glued it just slid it in ,could not believe the difference |
