Insect macros are my favourite subject. But just when I thought I'd seen 'em all I looked at some of you guys sites and just gazed in wonderment at the weird and wonderful variations of so-called creepy crawlies from around the globe! I'd love to see some of the weirdest pix you guys have taken...Let me start the ball rolling.
Look at this critter! Now, I'm the biggest coward on the planet when it comes to bugs and I'll wave my arms around and jig about like something possessed if a wasp does a couple of sorties around my head, but when I've got a camera in my hand I'll gladly take a couple of stings for the perfect shot!
With insect macros, it's like having your own little Made To Measure safari park in the back garden! I love it!

Yeah, but I think it's the smallness of them that's the scary part! You can't see the buggers till they've landing on you and sunk their jaws in!

This bug attacked me last summer. Actually, it was flying by close to my head. I panicked and swatted it to the ground. After that it was sluggish and I could take all the pictures I wanted to. What is it? A beatle or something? Don't see too many of these in a year (I live in Eastern Canada).

Nice texture on it's body, Jack, and looks like it's wings sticking out the back end there. Don't recognise this one at all, mate. Never seen one of those in the UK.
By the way, took a look at your site today and left some comments. Great.

i know this is a butterfly rather than a bug ... but it got people intrigued anyway. i took this in virginia, but have as yet not found anyone who knows this species or has it seen here before. that is, amongst family and friends. i have not tried sending the photo to any kind of entomology (sp?) labs, maybe i should try that ...

Hi all... this fell off the main page pretty quickly... I'm hoping to get some comments on my macro bug shots, I'd like to know how to improve them. So I'm booting this back on. Thanks!

I think that your "Butterfly" is absolutly perfect. The rest aint bad either, but it really is good.
Keep up the good work.

As a kid in So. Cal. I use to clean leaves out of the backyard pool. I remember finding one of these at the bottom once. Yikes! Freaked me out for years...

Franziska ~ Beautiful butterfly shot!
