Valentines cards banned from school to prevent the `emotional trauma` of being rejected...

Seriously, rejection from the fairer sex was a daily occurrence (and still is) in my life - and I am as sane as the next man!

Hum, "they were not emotionally mature enough to cope. "...
This in a time when kids get pregnant at the age of 13...

I have a 4 year old, and the best way he has to get the notion of real life is living it. Seems a bit close-minded...

What is going on these days??? When I think I have heard all the daft things going on this story pops up.
What numpty thought that idea up.

*shakes head in disbelief*

we are raising children who can't work unless they do it as a team, children who do not understand losing because everyone gets a trophy. My favorite now is the no zeros allowed. Teachers cannot give a zero to a student who doesn't do the work. They get more chances, and alternate ways to do what is asked.. Please tell me what happens when this child goes to work and doesn't perform.. is the boss giving him a 2nd or 5th chance to do the job??? Sorry I am really tired of raising children who can't/won't get off the couch and go explore the world, who can't lose and most of all can't think for themselves. ****

**** the above is my opinion and is a generalization. I know there are many children who can work and think alone, who know about loss..

I am so tired of some nanny trying to protect us from ourselves. We learn by consequences, and if we are protected from negative consequences, we lose at least 1/2 of our learning opportunities.

Sadly, this type of thing is not directed solely at kids.

A while back I was visiting Niagara Falls on the Ontario side. To my surprise I saw a sign indicating that climbing over the railing could be dangerous... NO SHIT SHERLOCK.

My dad was right... the sad thing about common sense is that it's not all that common.

My daughters school will not give out any grade lower than a 50%; even when no work was turned in. I tried to get the principle to explain this policy to me and was unable to get an answer that made sense.

Every discussion I have ever seen or heard about subjects such as this, seems to have everyone agree that it is stupid and/or bad.

So if - as far as I can tell - 100% are against this, how do these insane rules ever get implemented?

How do the very few manage to convince the vast majority?

Fear, manipulation, and lowest common denominator thinking.

LOL, also reminds me of the brand of peanuts that was sold in the UK that had the warning "May contain nuts" on the packet.

I'm not sure how to answer that one! That doesn't make sense does it?
But they are out there....lurking....and you will run onto them when you least expect it. I did once or twice and was totally surprised!
I also had one of those few run onto me one time....she backed off and left in a hurry.

edited to add a word I left out ;-)

This is what was said:

"He said children should wait until they are mature enough emotionally and socially to understand the commitment in having a boyfriend or girlfriend."

There's a commitment? No wonder my grade school love life was such a disaster.

that's bullshit - giving valentines cards isn't about giving a card to your boyfriend or girlfrined - it's just about giving the cards. My kids (and I'm sure others as well) brought home a list of every kid in the room so that they could give a card to EVERY KID IN THE ROOM. Now if they wanted to give a special one to a special somebody they could do that as well.

If my 6 year old daughter came home with a valentines card from a boy in her class I would see it as quite sweet. I wouldn't be too concerned about the emotional fallout though when they dont like each other anymore.

In my opinion, the headteacher of that school isn`t actually fit to be in charge of kids. He (or she) obviously has zero understanding of how kids think.

I have to remember this line because I agree wholeheartedly. I think some people just don't have any common sense whatsoever, they weren't born with it and do not have an iota of what it is. I work with many of these people. ;|

Oh and about the article, just plain crazy. I would complain to the school.

Someone needs to get an internet movement to mail Valentine's to the school. That would be funny.
