I can understand that ppl might not want to allow voting via mobile device since images are too large to really evaluate that way, but I can't even click a "next image" arrow or anything which prevents ease of viewing and also prevents commenting and adding faves etc. I wonderif anyone else would like to enable this or if maybe I'm missing something (which is entirely possible ;)

note; I was able to post into the forums via iPhone - which is great.

I agree. I find myself with free time when I'm not near a computer and I'd love this ability. What would be cool is an app. I think if pictures are full screen on the iphone (and you could turn the phone to accomodate landscape or portrait) you can get a good feel for the picture, assuming you're not out in harsh light.

It is a good thought.

Hmmm... sounds like it wouldn't be much better than thumbnail voting.

At first I thought an app might be a bit much to ask - but since it could be sold for 1.99 or something, it might be a way for DPC to make something from it.

I suppose if it was an app, maybe people could resize and enter?!?!?! via iPhone … and the app could take care of saving/uploading the original as well so the images would be legal - or at least verifiable. And if I really wanna push my luck, they should add auto-location as well with the app =)

OK, make it happen!

I'm not talking about voting, just clicking through images and commenting. I have been unable to do this via iPhone (int he voting stage).

If there was a way to block voting from an iPhone then ok. Commenting and adding favs or wishlist items I don't see as a problem.

;o)

DPC is a great web-site and very user-friendly while on a full-size PC. But when you're on the iPhone, it really is a pain in the butt. I'm not talking about voting, but simply posting, commenting, viewing your current scores, profiles, and general navigation of the site.

An iPhone app would keep DPC "current" … in line with Flickr, smugmug, etc. and could certainly broaden the DPC user base. I'm not too optimistic because it seems DPC changes VERY infrequently and as I always mention, DPCPrints could be SOOOOO much better.

Edit to say: Don't mean to complain … and certainly not to rant - because lord knows I'm a big fan of DPC and the community!

At the very least, there should be an iPhone version of the site. This has been on my mind for some time now. It sure would help.

Personally, I think the web needs to start ignoring the iPhone (and anything Apple), completely. Make it, freaking, DIE.

I can vote from my Windows Mobile device. I don't, but I could. I don't see why the iPhone's browser (Safari for iPhone?) wouldn't be able to display and wouldn't let you vote. And I would never pay $1.99 for a program that lets me do LESS than the browser, so if there's an app, it better have all the features you have when visiting DPC via web browser.

ETA: I've actually submitted at least one image via this phone, so the web browser is very useful when it can do what a PC web browser can.

It's not the phone, it's the site.
DPC recognizes the iPhone as a mobile device … there is a notice that indicates voting from mobile devices is not allowed. So it is disabled. But so is clicking through the images - and therefor commenting on images that are in the voting stage.

The site looks fine - but it's not optimized for the phone - so it's inconvenient to move around the page and the drop-downs don't work well. Many web-sites know that apps make for a better experience from iPhone (Chase bank for example), so they get more loyal customers because they feel ... oh so special with their little app.

I'm not ranting on about how DPC sucks or anything, I'm making a suggestion to make it better.

Uh … OK. How does that make the world a better place?! Bill Gates' value goes up a bit?

THANK YOU!!!
Especially since it already recognizes the device and disables voting.

The site looks exactly the same in Safari on the iPhone as in any other browser. It's just small. As an example, The Star has a very readable iPhone/mobile version of it's site that has bigger fonts, an amenable iPhone layout, etc. It'd just be nice. No need for embolisms. :P
