Yep, I'm tooting my own horn. The end of October I entered the Vertical Magazine's 1st annual photo contest. I was lucky enough to have the chance to go flying in a Bell 47 several times this past summer & got to shoot a crop duster as well. I didn't have any expectations when I entered the contest, we only had one good day (& by day I mean an hour or so) of shooting & I entered the last night they were accepting. BUT low & behold Malcolm (my pilot) called me early December & said he had just read my name in Vertical Magazine! I WAS THRILLED to say the least, my first publication, & in an international magazine. This shot was the last shot I took from that day too. He was spraying corn fields, which is what you see in the background.
Here's a scan of the front cover & pg. 87 with my photo (#2, bottom right)

Very cool and congratulations! What did you end up winning?

Just my name in the magazine. Top 3 in each catagory (I believe) won cash, a subscription to their magazine & something else possibly...?

Congrats! Good shot too. Shooting from that elevation and angle would make me dizzy lol

I wasn't sure how I would like flying (I'm not a big fan of flying in airplanes) but flying in a helicopter (or at least the one I was in) was incredible. You have such a view! The first time we took off I thought I'd get the flippy-belly but it was almost like you were floating, all of a sudden you were off the ground & going up. It's definitely neat, I'm hoping to be able to fly with him again when the weather breaks. He's already got some ideas for next years photo contest :)
