Take a panoramic photograph of a landscape, cityscape, crowd, or any subject that lends itself to a wide view.

Expert editing! (Pano stitches are awesome.)

Love the idea, except I would keep it to Advanced rules and have a special rule to allow up to 5 images for stitching.

Is 5 enough? I just did one that used 8 images combined. Granted, I hadn't done one of these in ages...it was fun, and this could be a fun challenge!

You've only got 800 pixels wide. The wider you go, the skinnier it gets (heightwise that is).

This is true, but using more images doesn't always equate to a wider image -- it also depends on the amount of overlap between images. Also, some stitching software (e.g. AutoStitch) allows photos to be combined in the vertical dimension as well as the horizontal, allowing you to make the image taller than just combining a series panned horizontally. My guess is that if we run a challenge like this we will probably be more rather than less generous as to the number of original source images allowed.

Per the numerous recent requests, some of us (SC) are reviewing the challenge topics and the alternate rule sets, but I suggest patience regarding any actual action on these until after the holidays. :-)

Oh yeah, and special rule, images can be 1600px wide. ;)

I like the idea that it could be advanced with a special rule to allow for multiple framings of the scene. And thanks for the hint that a challenge like this might garner more allowable images used... my ideal setup would need a minimum of nine images.

In fact, one of the stated reasons for not allowing panos under Advanced was so that special challenges might be run. I say, bring it on!

I have some good ideas already.... I'm just going to start working on this one now and have it figured out by the time a challenge is made... ha.

Why only 5? We are allowed up to 10 in Advanced Editing for overlays and HDR.
