I am looking at a D70 that is on eBay, and in the last photo of it, the camera has a body cap on, the power switch is in the -off- position, and the top LCD reads { - E - } .
Can someone with a D70 try putting the body cap on, and switch the camera on and then off, to see if the E appears in the top LCD? If this is normal, I may buy it for a backup body.
There are only a couple of hours left on the auction, so by 9:30 PM tonight it will be sold.

That just means that there's no CF card in the slot.

With a CF card in the camera, it will normally show the number of shots you can still take with the room left on the card (even if the camera is off).

this is not normal. the only thing that should appear on the LCD when the power switch is in the off position is the number of frames available on the memory card.

ETA: which of course reads -E- when there is no memory card inserted... d'oh.

And if there's no memory card, it says "-E-" :) I promise it's normal. I have my D70s right here beside me, no lens, no card, and there's an -E-.

Thanks, I may bid on it now. I was worried that the camera had a glitch, either software or hardware, that was causing the E code.
Question answered. Happy DPC'er here.
