Best challenge idea for ages - I just hope everyone plays fair and sticks to the rules. I will be voting on this 100% and will take each shot at face value. This is gonna be great!

I haven't been around for a couple of months, but I'm in for this one!

Wendy who?

Wendy White Background. Yes that's her full name. eheh :)

I like her birdy shots. I'm going to try using her technique next summer when THE BIRDS COME BACK.

I don't think anyone wants to see an image of some stupid sparrow that didn't evolve the instinct to migrate south. lol

Simms, how will you tell if the image is authentic?

Ah, but can you photograph it in its natural habitat?
Joking of course. That bird's habitat is the world!

Oh, this is a fun Challenge. I'm sure going to try to find a photogenic bird.
(And I was along the Pacific migration route just a few short weeks ago!)

Don`t forget the pheasent, partridge, grouse, kingfisher, ring-necked parakeets (in surrey), kestrel, goshawk (my personal fave!), sparrow hawk, red kite etc.

:)

I'm the second one in! Being in this early is never good... but I really like my shot. Maybe I really like it because my bird made me chase him through wetlands in my tennis shoes and I'm just thankful to have gotten anything to show for the effort... We'll see!

That's not exactly a new phenomenon ...

Challenge (date suggestion posted)

Urban Decay (11/7)
Rural Decay (11/30)
Puzzle Macro III (12/1)
Powerlines (11/22)
Tilt-Shift (11/15)
Polka Dots (11/19)
Spirit of a Country (11/11)

Painted Face (10/27)
Macro Without Bugs ... (12/1)

It seems to me that Countre-Jour, 47 Steps, 3-Techniques, and Animal-People Interactions were also recent suggestions, but I couldn't find the exact dates right now.

Oh, that's a nice lineup, indeed. I almost said, "I'll be right over."
But what you don't have is a nice little hummingbird.
( I was astonished when an English ornithologist friend told me of your lack.)

But who could possibly photograph a hummer without a feeder to bait her? I mean, I'm sure it's been done, but gawd, what a task that would be...

I'm totally stoked for this challenge, simply because, I have never set out to photograph birds and I just got my 200-400mm tamron. So... I'm going to head out tomorrow morning, and even later in the week and see what I can come up with.

As far as voting goes, I'm normally not a big DNMC guy, but if the photo of the bird is obviously not in the wild, I will vote down on it... Although, I don't understand why bird feeders are out, because you are just feeding a bird in the wild. Well either way, I'm going to be alittle stricter about the DNMC in this challenge because I'm making the effort to get a wild bird photo, and I'm sure most others are too, so if the bird has a leash, or is obviously in a zoo, or because the challenge dictates, a birdfeeder is present, I will vote it down...

That brings me to my next question, is a bird on a white background DNMC??? I mean, the bird could have been shot in the wild, but how would you know if the background is white??? Just curious how you guys will be voting on this one...

Easy... Wear a bright red hat... Not a feeder, although the poor dumb birdie doesn't know it isn't... :)

Just saw some nice video of Red Kites in this episode of "Nature" about Ravens ... but don't think those "British Army Privates" (ravens) stationed in the Tower of London would qualify for this challenge though ... ;-)

HA - Got ya, Bear. I won't say it was easy. It wasn't. I didn't and don't own a feeder.

I just browsed through the site's photos of hummingbirds and there were also quite a few others with no feeder in sight ... unfortunately I couldn't find the one I was really looking for. :-(
