Great in 3D. Better than Coraline. Other than the few in your face "hey look it's in 3D" shots this was very well done. The depth of the forest, the pollen? floating throughout the theater. Very well done, and a decent story too.

I saw my first 3D film (current gen 3D, not the red/green nonsense) a few weeks ago - A Christmas Carol and it absolutely blew me away - I dont thin I have ever been as immersed in a film as I was that one - even without the 3D I would say it probably the best version of A Christmas Carol ever, very very close to the source material even to the point great swathes of the dialogue were lifted straight from the book.

Flying through a 3D snowy Victorian London was amazing.

Glad to hear Avatar is good in 3D - might go see that this week..

Avatar was made here in Wellington. There has been alot of hype here leading up to the opening. The lines at the theater were very long the first night of showing. I think I will wait for things to die down a little before I go to see it.

Up until last night I thought it was a movie based on the cartoon. I didn't see what the big deal was. Then I read up on the movie and know that it's not anything like I was thinking.

It looks absolutely stunning but i just can't get excited by the story. Seems like it's the same old, vacuous, slightly insulting 'Noble Savage' drivel. Like a Dances With Wolves science fiction movie. 'Smurfahontas', someone described it as. Yuck.

Plus the contrived love story schlock added as a kind of fictional module. Just snap in to make the story complete! I'm not sure the visuals are worth the vacuity.

I'll probably spend the buck when it makes it to the Red Box.

You have floating mountains in Wellington? - Cool! - You're in with a good chance for the next 'Landscape' challenge then.

I loved it! Visually stunning and as for the story sure it has been done before but it didn't matter to me at all I liked it. I will see it again just to enjoy the beauty of it.
Oh and I loved Dance with Wolves as well!

It's even better than everything good you've heard or read about it.

Visually stunning, certainly. Great story with some interesting twists. Plenty of action. Interesting character development. Totally convincing world setting. Everyone coming out of the theatre had big smiles on their faces. See it in iMax if you have one nearby showing it. I'll be seeing it again!

Just got back from seeing this in 3D - sure, it's formulaic and has a schmultzy love story, but it is central to the plot. Overall, I loved it! Given that James Cameron produced, wrote and directed this - you've got to admire the flat out commitment to the vision. It really is a great piece of work.

I may actually just do this. Especially since I had free movie passes and the Imax was sold out the day before. It's a bit of a drive though. I was told we don't have a real iMax though more like a mini-max.

Dances with Wolves is a good movie, a serious one, Avatar is not. Dances with Wolves would have been as bad as Avatar if Kevin went with a Ferrari to impress the Indians.
