I just recently purchased a 100mm f2.8 usm Canon macro lens. Oh and loving it! Looking to gain more magnification, I figured some extension tubes would suffice.
Looking at what is available, I came to Kenko and Canon. It seems Kenko compared to Canon, is quite cheaper in price. Now I'm wondering, is there much of a quality difference in these products?

I have the set from Kenko and they work great. There's no glass to worry about image degradation, so I don't know how the Canon set would be much better.

I have both of the 2nd generation Canon tubes, the 12mm and the 25mm. They're well made and work great. I haven't used the Kenko tubes, so I can't say anything about the differences. This review from the-digital-picture.com might help you decide.

According to the review, "The Canon has a few niceties such as the an included storage pouch, nicer caps and a nicer textured finish." Also, "The Canon EF 25mm Extension Tube II is updated to be fully compatible with Canon Digital EF-S lenses, as well as standard photo EF and TS-E lenses."

I bought a set of used Kenko extension tubes for my Canon about a year ago. The finish is fine, the caps are fine, and two of the three tubes sync well with the AF and AE features of the lens and camera. However, one ring (12mm) is defective: the chrome flange was not properly machined and the lens locking pin does not come out far enough to engage with the lens. The lens does not "think" it is attached to the camera body, so AF and AE are disabled. I wrote to Kenko in Japan requesting a replacement flange, but they did not reply. I have no warranty protection on this used product. My advice is that if you buy it used, ensure that it is fully functional.

You might check out roz and her amazing insects which apparently are all done with the Kenko tubes.
