The new PM system that was previously announced is now live. Some notes about the system:

- You can access your inbox/sentbox from the My Home/My Messages menu.
- You'll see an inbox on the left side of your homepage now. This inbox will display the last five messages you received. Messages in blue have not been read, and ones in black have.
- There's a new preference that when enabled will email your PM notifications to you. It has been enabled by default... feel free to change it if you like, however, if you keep it enabled, you will be able to reply to PMs from your inbox (convenient for some).
- Like we did with Polls, I want to have the inbox rise to the top of the list of left boxes when new messages arrive, and send the inbox to the bottom of the list when no new messages exist.
- There's an issue with the to columns on the inbox/sentbox listings. This will be tightened up.

There are some current concerns I have that should be addressed over the next few days/weeks:

- There's no "jump to last read reply" feature (like the forums have). This makes dealing with larger messages a little annoying, but not unbearable
- When you're viewing a message, there's no context of how you're viewing it (whether it's in the inbox or sentbox). I'll be adding a breadcrumb display to resolve this.
- Some other internal issues (rate limiting for new users to prevent spam, security tightening, etc).

Feel free to ask any questions or make suggestions.

Thanks, Langdon for the innovation.

Only one question: Breadcrumb display? speak English, please?

is there a way in the Sentbox to know if the PM has been read?

How about a way to send to multiple recipients, like a CC line? Obviously, it would have to be part of the security set/restrictions for new users, since it would make spamming too easy for them.

Like a read receipt? Man, those drive me bananas. I always say "DO NOT SEND READ RECEIPT" when they pop up on me at work.

You can do that. Simply enter a name and when the name appears in the little box with an "X" to the right, simply enter another name, and another...

I just sent a PM to myself and never received an email notification that I have a PM.

No on other sites the PM Title will change color once you have read one in your inbox, and the ones you sent will change color in your outbox once it has been read by the person you sent it to.

I sent one to Bear and as far as I can tell he is online, and hasn't read it or replied to it. Maybe something is broke?

Since PMs work in a threaded format now, you will not receive an email when you post to the thread. This includes when you send a PM to yourself.

I'll send you a PM; post here whether you get the email.

I got the PM CJ, but just an FYI, ATT is my ISP provider and they blocked it.

Your post announcing it is timed 9:15pm, and I got a PM in my e-mail from a user at 9:16pm.... I think you need to adjust the default wording of PMs if one can indeed reply. It still says:

To reply to this message, click the following link:
//www.dpchallenge.com/message.php?USER_ID=40683

Do not reply to this e-mail -- this is not ErinM's e-mail address.

Edit: hum, the message I got at 9:16pm isn't in my "Messages" here.

Louis- That email was generated from the old PM system.

Ok, thanks. There's an issue on Safari with the inbox while reading a message. Have a look:

Screen extends beyond right edge of browser window, a good 75px or so. The capture above shows a browser window resized *very* wide.

Edit: sorry, the issue is while reading a message, not while displaying the Inbox.

THANK YOU!

I really tried to stay away from the PM system before! Not anymore! Thanks for all the hard work!

Awesome!
