My point & shoot, the Casio Exilim EX-S10 is having serious issues. The LCD displays nothing but black when in shooting mode. The LCD is on, and shows the various settings it's supposed to, but the image is black. It's as if something is completely blocking the lens. The camera would actually snap pictures, but in play-back it also shows nothing but black. Please help! I've done some online research and nothing has come up.

You think your sensor might be kaputt?

That's what I was thinking...I mean, what else could produce such a weird problem.

That's my best logical guess... if I'm understanding you correctly, the LCD is still functioning, as it's displaying settings, but it isn't getting any input from the sensor. When you say the camera would snap pictures, do you mean you can view them on the card via a card reader but not using the LCD? Or do you mean it behaves as though it's taking photos and then its just black?

"as though it's taking photos that are just black"

That's a bummer. Out of curiosity, does it actually record information to the card on these black photos? I'm wondering if there would even be data to write if the sensor isn't sending an input because it's dead.
You could always disassemble if and learn a thing or two if it's out of warranty.

Yea it's recording to the card, as if the camera doesn't know that it's taking in all black.

Sounds like the sensor to me.

Have you tried increasing the shutter speed or ISO settings to see if anything at all is reaching the sensor? - Also, if you increase levels to the max in photoshop on these black photos are you seeing anything, or is it an even tone throughout the image? (This would indicate if the sensor is sending any data at all, or if there's some other issue with the shutter)

I had a problem like that with my p&s too. The diafragm wasn't opening.
