Driving from toronto, Ontario to Washington D.C.
any photo ideas for on the way or while there? it's a wedding so I don't have much time, but any suggestions would be great, i.e. cool things on the way...
i'm leaving Friday moring this coming week...

Google maps gives two options for the trip. Either way it is listed as being ~9 hours, so you probably don't want to do much in the way of detouring. (I assume you have already been to the greater Niagara falls area, so I will not include this in the following considerations.)
Option #1 would have you go via Buffalo to Erie, then near (but not through) Pittsburgh, and finally through rural Pennsylvania and Maryland into Washington DC. Erie has a large state park called Presque Isle, which is supposed to be quite scenic, although I have never been there. Other than that the Toronto to Erie part does not have a lot of cool things without taking you out of the way. I have never driven the Erie to Pittsburgh stretch, but I don't think there is much there. But I have driven the Pittsburg to Washington stretch many times and I am not aware of any outstanding things until you get close to Washington.
Option #2 has you go near (but not through) Rochester, and then pretty much due south from the Rochester area to Baltimore and then Washington. Along that way is Watkins Glen State Park (a series of waterfalls is the best feature) and the Finger Lakes area (although this is a bit of a detour), and Baltimore itself.
The greater Washington DC area has lots of great/cool things, both photographically and non-photographically. Thus unless you have already spend a lot of time in Washington, my suggestion would drive straight to Washington and spend your free time doing stuff there.
What is interesting/photogenic in Washington DC? A good place to start is the whole stretch from the Capitol to the Washington Monument & White House to the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials and the Tidal Basin, with multiple free museums and the Vietnam War memorial along the way -- yes this is the heart of the tourist area but it really has a lot to offer. If you want something outside of the city, there is Great Falls, Virginia, which  sekarmalathy in particular has photographed with great success. This should keep you fully busy with the limited time you have there. |

| Come down through the finger lakes. The leaves are a little past peak but still worth the detour. |

Thanks for the pointers!!! I sent a PM to sekarmalathy I am going to try and see if the falls are easily acceessable by car, as my only chance to stop there is Sunday morning on the way home, and I will have two other passengers, so I really can't keep them waiting... but if it's easy to park at and run over, I can spare the 1/2 hour on Sunday morning...
I have been there several other times and checked out the monuments, they really are awesome!

| The falls are ~5 minutes off the beltway at the point where the western half of the beltway crosses the Potomac River at the Maryland/Virginia line. There is a park on both the Maryland and the Virginia sides -- the Virginia side is where sekarmalathy's high scoring images were taken and this is where you can see the nice view of the whole thing. Once you are in the parking lot on the Virginia side, it is no more than a 2-3 minute walk to the view of the falls. |

| I organized a photowalk on the Maryland side in July (walk wrap-up post). Both sides, MD and VA, are easy to get to and you can get some nice shots within 5 minutes of the parking lots. Let me know if you need a guide tomorrow morning and I can meet you there. |
