I submitted what i think is a perfectly acceptable photo to relieve well above 5/10 it received a flat 5 and got absolutely no comment. Ten people gave this a three and didn't leave a comment! What's with people! even people who thought it was great and gave it a nine still didn't vote! WHY!!! Isn't this site about feedback?

Anyway... I'd love comments on this photo, thanks in advance!

Don't worry about it too much. I didn't get any comments either, my score was decent but I got alot of 3's and a 2 which I would have loved to know why. But it is time to move on to new challenges.

The average score in this challenge is 5.1716 with a median of 5.11075. I find that the scores were very low, even though I thought the challenge entries were good. I dont remember the exact number, by my average vote given was around 6.2 in this challenge. I am surprised that with over 200 entries, voters felt that only 20 shots deserved above 6.

So, dont feel to bad about your score... there were lots of low scores for some reason.

Voting has been very unkind recently. I don't quite understand those many low scores with your shot, but it likely as to do with the fact that you have something other than just lines in the shot - we have some narrow minded folks voting...

They're idiots...that's all I can say. They seem to vote as if they know everything about photography and can do way better than what they are voting on....they are just blowing wind up their own asses...pompous prats!!!

BTW...thankyou heaps for your comment.

that's just crazy. you got a 7 from me. adding the model made it a little scary. she could be so high up, but she's probably not that high.

I was traveling the last couple of days, so I am a little late to the game.

I would like a little feedback on this one. The strange thing about this challange, for me anyway, is that this one started out so good. The first few votes went; 8, 8, 7, 7, 4, 6, 7

Granted that's only a few votes, but I rarely start that good and then see it nose dive like this one did.

By the time I had 20 votes, there were 4 comments, the rest of the comments came late or on the last day. The average from the commenters was 8.6.

Any one of the 27 people that voted 4 or less care to comment as to why?

Thanks in advance.

Ya got me. I gave it a 7 and it looks like it placed fairly well.

Judi--I think your score was lower than it deserved because of the "human element". Good lines though.
I got just above the 20% in voting and life got in my way so I couldn't finish and really didn't get to vote on many entries. Sorry to all for that. I seldom comment on entries, I simply don't feel qualified to give much feedback so 1 comment on my shot was better than none. My shot ended up exactly where I thought it would be, a 4.5. I thought it would be between 4 and 5.
It was one of those entries that I hadn't planned to enter, but it seemed to fit the challenge and I had nothing better. Ahhh well such is life. Better to have entered and done poorly, than to have not entered at all.

Thanks Steve, any other volunteers?

Yeah, I thought that by avoiding the cliches of leaves, cocaine, windows, etc. that I'd be looking at some higher scores. Anyone want to critique this shot? Be brutal if necessary.

People voted extremely harshly on this challenge -- I'm saying it, and I didn't even enter it.

I think people just expected to be wowed by lines. Lines that really stood out and made a statement. I was actually hoping for that, myself, when I voted on the challenge. The criteria that I used was this: I wanted the photo to really be about the lines. I wasn't looking for a photo that just happened to have lines in it. Almost any photo has lines in it, so that would have been easy.

Judi's photo I gave a 6. I thought the lines were great, but I thought the person was distracting. With the color and just with the person, your eyes immediately went to her and completely lost interest in the wonderful lines. That's why I didn't score it higher.

Scarbrd I gave an 8. They were twisty turny fat lines, but they were lines, and the photo was really exploring those lines.

ColemanGariety I gave yours a 5. The light lines were interesting, but the focus on the city seemed very soft and I didn't care for the horizon being right in the center of the frame. It's not the city that has the interesting lines, imo, it's the reflection. Yet with the city being soft and not as interesting, it was given equal weight in the picture and it brought the picture down.

Ok! Everyone can go ahead and get irritated with me and disagree now! (at least I didn't give any 1-4s!)

If we all had those windmills where we live, it would surely be a cliche subject as well! Another one where my vote and the masses disagree. It got an 8 from me, and apparently your only in-challenge comment.

oops, just missed yours, wkdesigns. I gave it a 5. I liked the idea quite a bit, but not the angle. I think it would have been much more interesting seeing the blades more edge on. The white blades had a tendency to blend into each other. If they would have been more edge on, perhaps with sky between, it could have been very interesting lines. I guess yours made me want more.

As long as we are making a party out of this... some more feedback on mine would be nice, though I am pretty sure why mine performed as it did (and actually came in about where expected).

Instead of embedding a large image from an outside source...wouldn't it be better to just post the thumbnail...which would encourage any further comments along the way??

He posted a photo from an outside source....! If people are going to make comments...it will generally be on a photo that is on the site already.
