I thought it would be a good idea to be able to leave comments on peoples profiles, and the users can delete the post if they feel the person who posted it wasn't posting anything constructive or positive. Just like you can fav a photo and fav a photographer, you should be able to comment on the photo you fave, as well as the photographer. Right? Simple, but a good idea for the site...

I think you have something there. I second the motion....It would almost be like commenting on myspace / facebook...but only constructive critisizm...good idea

Good idea except for the person being able to delete the comment if they don't like it (or if it isn't constructive or positive). There are some comments on some of my photos that are not positive or constructive (not pointing any fingers) but I can't delete those.

I see this as an opportunity to create tremendous discord, with people having to constantly monitor their profile to delete "non-constructive" comments, followed by a re-posting of same ... or, if the comments can't be deleted, for the person's profile to turn into a Rant forum, with a constant back-and-forth about the validity of comments.

I think there's a reason this site doesn't operate like Facebook.

maybe comments shouldn't be publicly visible until photographer approves them, since highly critical or mean comments would be inappropriate for a profile anyhow. otherwise an attack could sit in view for weeks/months until the photographer logs back in.

But, wouldn't showing only those comments "approved" by the photographer be worse than useless, since they wouldn't reflect the community's true feelings about the photographer? Are we next only going to allow publication of book reviews approved by the author?

Maybe it could be a site council feature then to be able to delete non-constructive criticism on peoples profiles. Your right, people might go a little trigger happy with deleting comments.

We really don't need yet another place to monitor/come into conflict with members ... :-(

Comments on a person's profile might be more like social network profile 'testimonies' - they tend to be nice and positive. Like favorite photographer picks already in existence, would be more a measure of popularity vs. something 'useful'. The example given above may be more analogous to comments on a photograph than on the photographer. That said, I'm not really in favor of the idea - but am arguing against a freeforall if it were added.

To me the comments should be at the collection level. Though then it would only be available to paid members unless there would be a way to comment on a registered user's portfolio.

I'm here for the photography and learning. I don't need, or want, feedback on my profile page. Thanks, but NO thanks.

God forbid I have something on my profile that doesn't "reflect the community's true feelings about" me! Golly gee whizz, there are days......

I don't "use" my profile page for anything much - maybe because I am technically challenged, but that's for me to know, and I really like this being entirely up to me: I can blow my horn or not; entice or repel viewers with whatever outrageousness will fit within the limits of my imagination.

The Photographer's Profile Page is how the photographer wishes to present him/herself. So
if someone wants to comment on that page, there is always the PM route.
Probably it is a good idea to comment publicly only on the photographer's work not the photographer.

I guess this is be the way to go: allow comments on the collections - the down side is that, different from a photo, a collection can be dynamic with images being added and removed, so an older comment might no longer be relevant.

I agree the the profile is the photog's showroom window, and all its content should be controlled at her/his discretion.

(edit for grammar - the ones I found, of course...;~)

Fair enough, Commenting on collections if you are a paid member. Good way to encourage more members. Now what does site council think?

I'm not sure about this idea, but if that happens i think it should be limited 1 comment per person. Because people would start to comment other comments like happens on shots and it would be a SPAM on profiles.

Same here. Facebook and its ilk already exist for the purpose of leaving profile comments. No need for it here!
