I started to see new people here, new ideas and new everything... I might say last 6 months to a year changed things a little bit around here. I think you would notice only if you are gone for that long time, but I am happy things are little different now.

But, is it me, or quality dropped a little bit? (It has got to be me on that one)

Then again, "WHO CARES?". I prefer new faces :)

i'm highly offended when you said the quality has dropped.
my ribbon entry for the "Grain" challenge proves that quality is alive and maintained!

(lol)

Yeah, quality has dropped :s

Also, notice the ribbon hoggers (Pedro, Kiwiness, Librodo etc) no longer actively submit. This gives us, the poor quality crowd, a better chance HAHAHA.

I don't know about quality dropping, maybe just less quantity of quality.

I have a new face. ...ok not really. Just an additional chin. :/

Good to see you back, Leo. Nothing's changed.

Many of the old-timers are now in the DPC nursing home, where they are not allowed out of the building or on the computer after their early bird dinners.

I don't know about quality dropping. I think my photography has improved tremendously, but is is harder than ever to get a high score here. Or, I could just be fooling myself.

Good to see you back, Leo.

I took a long time off too- I don't think quality has necessarily dropped, but I think the average number of entries per challenge has severely dropped off (largely due to two Open challenges instead of one now), which may make it seem like there aren't as many "top" images per challenge.

Dual weekly Basic challenges started in September of 2005. Hardly anything "new".

ETA - Just noticed...you DID have a long time off with a gap from 2005 to 2009. :-) Go take a look at challenge history since then. You'll see that the dual basic "open" challenges have had some substantially high numbers up until the last couple months (since the last DPC Olympics really).

Faces change, people out grow the site, the need to get their ego stroked with scores, most of the good ones get bored and move on to greater things in life, new Niche programs come and make their rounds then fade out like a boy band. The quality drops, then comes back, then drops. Its always the same its like Groundhog day here everyday. :p

Matt

Edit to add about the only thing around here that doesn't change is Rant and things being discussed on the site that have absolutely nothing to do with Photography. If the people on the site put as much effort into their photography and the discussion of it as they do bashing gays, politicians, celebrities, and other members this could be an amazing place.

Hmmm... He says the quality has dropped in the last six months--I started almost exactly 6 months ago!

I resent that!! (I resemble that? I can never remember how that saying goes...) :P

It seems like I didn't wait long enough... IreneM still winning the blues, and I know her face well... I think I will go back to my cave and hibernate another century or so... if that would be enough :P

*I can only imagine the chins Art Roflmao will have after that long time... brrrrr, scary thoughts*

I'm not sure what that is suppose to mean. Here is my last 10 threads posted to. Rant and Personal life are both blocked and I never read there.

I think it's a bit of a cycle here at DPC....as photographers get better, they have less time to enter and are doing more paid work or shooting for themselves or just feel it's time to move on.

However, in the overall scheme of things, I don't really see quality dropping. Perhaps a change in current trends or styles of photography (for instance the black top/bottom border we see more now.) In anycase, I think if you go back and look at challenge results from 5 or 6 years ago, you will actually see quality has been improving. That may be from updated cameras as well. It's always fun to go back to the challenges from the very first year. How would they score today?

I stopped entering challenges a while back.

So yah, quality dropped immensely.

So do something about it already!

Take better pictures!.......8>)

I know I've gotten better, and more comfortable with the photographer that I am in the past year, so I'm trying to do my part.
