This may be a completely dumb question, but I'm an SLR newbie:

I'm about to make a leap into the DSLR world, and need to know if lenses that are classed as auto focus will also allow me to perform manual focus? For example, the NEW SIGMA 18-50mm F3.5-5.6 DC LENS on a Nikon D100.

every AF lens that i've ever seen is manual focus too. usually only the opposite is true, as in, there are manual only lenses.

Yes, all auto focus lenses for SLR cameras can be operated in manual mode as well.

Nikon AF bodies typically have a selector switch on the front of the camera for MSCf (Manual, Single, Continuous focus).

Yes - I saw that switch on the Nikon D100, so knew that manual focus was supported on the camera body. What I wasn't sure of was whether I could manually focus the lens itself.

The problem you'd most likely run into is that manual focusing is much more difficult on a DSLR than it is on a SLR due to the difference in focusing screens. For example on the 10D and 300D there is no split prism so fine focus is trying. They also don't have interchangeable focus screens like the professional level cameras.
