ok, here is a challenge on all levels...you can enter your very best picture (from archives??), but the "entry" fee is that you have to commit to voting and commenting on all entries...if you do not complete your "challenge" of voting or commenting your entry could get Dq'd/scrubbed. maybe do this once a month or twice a year....hmmmm

Might have thought of something that I might have a chance of winning at????

Sounds like a plan to me. Although I seldom make comments, but frequently whine about not getting them, this may change my outlook. I would suggest once a year for this, with a second one done in Jan for best of ...last year. Keep these challenges as "open" to catch wide interest and potential new members.

that's my whole thought....is to push the "winer's" and make them do the commenting...I seem to be running out of cheese to add to the whining that is going around....ya....a commenting & voting challenge....

Many of the side challenges run on the basis that the participants will comment on all of the photos -- you can set one up with whatever criteria you want.

Mandatory commenting/voting has been tried (unsuccessfully) before, and I don't think we're likely to do it again in the near future.

Seriously, set up a side challenge with the rules the way you want. If you really want to have voting as well as comments, you could assign one person (yourself?) as scorekeeper, and have everyone PM their votes -- if you limit it to the first 20-40 participants it should be fairly easy to put a list of the photo titles in the thread, and people can copy/paste that into their PM and add their score.

The scorekeeper can then paste the votes into a spreadsheet to calculate the votes.

Something similar done earlier this year: The Best of 2008 Posthumous Open

but the difference being that "if you enter...you must vote and comment (no or here) on all....that in and of it self should be a challenge for most!!

I think the problem is that if it becomes too much of a chore, people won't do it. I would love to see everyone do a modest amount of commenting. Say on 10-15% of their votes. That would be reasonable and doable. Not going to happen, though. I think we have an 80/20 thing going on here. 80% of the comments coming from 20% of the people.

So 300 people enter. Everyone has to try and vote and comment on all the images. Most of them are disqualified for not making it. The 30 people who got through it all feel exhausted and a little despondent.

As a side challenge, the number of entries can be arbitrarily limited by the initiator to avoid this problem. People who sign up will know in advance how many comments they'll need to make.
