I can see Titanic II being set in the future, where the ship is the latest and greatest inter planetary vessel ever built by man... and it strikes an asteroid on it's maiden voyage between Earth and Mars.

What am I thinking -- the original is Bambi Meets Godzilla -- it's pretty funny if you like that sort of thing. This version seems a bit shorter/different than I remember, but it was a long time ago ... ;-)

Unfortunately, there already seem to be a couple of "sequels" floating around out there.

This has been done in Doctor Who, Christmas special a few years ago starring Kylie!
