There have been good intentions by many of our Icelandic members at DPC to organize a photography GTG in Iceland. If there is to be such a trip it should be well organized and have concrete itinirary and price.
I currently work for a travel agency in incoming tourism, look after bookings and make sure tour buses leave on time with all those who have made reservations.
The company is //www.icelandexcursions.is
I asked our sales department to make a 3 day plan for a photography tour, all inclusive hotel accomodation 2 nights, including breakfast, bus and guidance. //dl-client.getdropbox.com/u/69673/Amazing_Iceland.pdf
Lalli Sig, Ragga2000 and others have shown interest in helping out with organizing the reception of a group from DPC.
Some of the members of our own local photography competion site //www.ljosmyndakeppni.is have shown interest in participating in the trip as well.
This 3 day trip is ofcourse just to get the group out of the capital Reykjavik to see the Icelandic landscape, mountains, waterfalls, lava fields and the Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon.
All participants need to buy there own flight tickets and arrange for their hotel accomodation on day of arrival and day of departure and any additional days they want to stay in Iceland.
A good place to start for tickets would be //www.icelandair.com for those flying in from North America, from Europe and further afield you may look into //www.icelandexpress.com in addition to Icelandair.
For hotel accomodation you may find anywhere from simple guesthouses and youth hostels to Radisson and Hilton hotels.
For a list of hotels in Reykjavik from Booking.com //www.booking.com/searchresults.html?aid=310561;sid=5f3c9ee828fce1dafd875e233944952b;city=-2651804
I chose the month of August and the trip should take place after the 2nd. A long bank holiday and the busiest travel weekend of the year will be over.
Now, who wants to visit Iceland?

Thanks for the useful links. Sounds like a great adventure. In the PDF there (which I missed at first), in converting the currency to USD...

43,000 Iceland kronur = 344.22 U.S. dollars (256.83 EUR)
51,900 Iceland kronur = 415.47 U.S. dollars (309.98 EUR)

(Replaced the period with the comma).

I'll just mention, this thread is the continuation of this one //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=802400&page=1

Brad, thanks for the heads up on the broken link. Fixed it here in my post too.

[Edited my post for clarity as well]

Techo, the link didnt work for me.... came up to //www. Not sure if it works for others, so I posted it above.

Looks like a really cool plan.... just wish I had the money. I will have to work out some budget to see if I can make it work.

I definitely like that it's a 3day , not 2day. Wish it was four hehe. I image I wouldn't be able to get enough in just 3. Thanks again for posting this.

It would be ideal that participants arrive day before tour, have a meeting in the evening before tour. After tour would be a chance to meet up with the Icelanders and some may want to go on other excursions and stay longer.

This sucks for me!
I already have plans to be in Iceland in July. Any chances of moving the start date a bit earlier? Around July 20th for example (I’m scheduled to leave on the 25th).
If not, hope it works out for you all.

Reservations for the hotel in the Vik village area have not been made, if there are others wanting to go in July, I am willing to check on availability. The proposed plan is just that a proposal, not much reaction to it yet..

Not this time for me....Just don't have that much cash spare now for a trip :-( Shame that one a few years ago didn't come off as I was all set for it with the cash and time off........ Anyone going have fun - oh and remember your bared from challenges during this time, so don't be thinking it will help your DPC scores :-))
