I have a 110-120v SP Studio flash set-up working with a Nikon D50 Camera. I currently have to use my camera mounted flash to act as a slave for the studio lighting which a bounce off object but really limits my abilty to use what the studio lights were intended to do.

I want to get a shoe mounted cordless slave (but am not limited to getting a slave that is corded), Does anyone know a good product that they can suggest for me. I don't believe there is any other way for the sync to be set-up without it on the Shoe for the D50, is there? I just don't know what products are compatible with the D50 and what's reliable.

Please shed some Flash lighting on the subject for me....

Check out ebay for V2s triggers from Hong Kong, they're the business.

Strobist covers the subject in this article.

Thanks JimiRose- But Is houldn't have read that article. I now have my heart set on the Pocket Wizard Transceivers which run about $160 each. I'll have to find a cheaper route and I like the V2's, but all I hear is rave reviews about the Pocket Wizards...
Thanks for the help though. That article was a big help.

I'd skip the ebay triggers, they are too hit or miss. You might get a good copy or you might not. I have the alien bee triggers and they work great.

I use these Cybersyncs from AlienBees (Paul Buff) all the time--love em! No false or missed triggers, about half the price of PWs. The studio where I shoot with them is large, and often has a half-dozen or more photographers shooting in various sections--choose your channel, go, and no false triggers from the others (unless we decide to mess with each other for fun, and dial our transmitter to their set up :-)

I ordered my very own set just this week, as using optical slave triggers, and even the commander mode of the nikon, with the SB800/600 strobes can be hit and miss.

get the alienbee cybersyncs. i was in your same spot about a month ago and then i decided i didnt wanna go the v2/cactus route and theres no way i could afford PWs. i was split between blowing a little more cash for some elinchroms. BUT i saw no distinct adv over the cybersyncs. and i LOVE them they work 100% of the time and i guess thats their only job so they do it well enough for me. also they are TINY which is nice as well:) i forget what the range is but its something large enough that i still think why in the world would you put a flash THAT far away. totally unnecessary lol. long story short... buy the cybersyncs they get a 10/10 from me :)

or use a SC-29 (corded to a off camera flash) to still let the camera/flash trigger, but this will help eliminate that onboard flash firing.

Thats what I did with my D50.

Oh-my-god... the Pocket Wizards are the only way to go!!!! Expensive as hell yes, but reliable on every click and very versatile. They are the only way to go with the radio slaves. The other ones (V2's) are cool if you want it to only last a short time or don't need it to be dependable on every shot, but I would highly recommend the Pocket Wizards to anyone! Thank you all so much for your help. (and Please Pardon my language for those easily affended!!)
