I'm going to enter my first challenge ever tonight on this great site, and I can't even explain how nervous I am going up against so many talented people. Hope I don't totally blow it but I'm going to give it hell trying anyway.

Good for you for having the courage to dive in. You will be frustrated cos as a registered user, you don't get to play with the update button that shows your score everytime you click on it.

That update button is addictive, you just can't leave it alone once you start. It almost matches the little boy who discovers he has something else to play with and can't leave it alone:))

My goal was and still is...."the middle of the pack"...if they have 200 entries, I'd like to finish in the top 100.

I'll go out on a limb and say that your first entry will beat out some of the "long termers" here on DPC. Keep us up to date on your score.

This is a very exciting thing! It does get easier once you have entered a few. Take a few deep breaths, remind yourself that this score does not define who you are and they won't kick you out if you don't ribbon the first time out! I'm thrilled on just how much I have improved since my first challenge - I'm nowhere close to where I would like to be but at least I am going the right direction (most of the time)!

This was my first entry and (thankfully) still my lowest score - I thought it was great!

I think you need to be quite thick skinned here but even after 5 years those '1' votes still hurt! Just enjoy what you produce and enjoy your time here :)

I already enjoy this site. I spent most of the day charging the battery for my new camera and sitting here reading tutorials, looking at past challenges, and just trying to absorb everything I have read and seen. I thought I knew quite a bit about photography but I'm left speechless after reading for a few hours.

I don't have high expectations for my first shot. I can't even leave the house to go find a subject I like, so I'm stuck with the front yard since my son has his friends here and can't leave the little demons alone.

Yeah, no worries, here's my first entry over 5 years ago.

Good luck and have fun! Once start, it's almost too hard to stop.
