No guy will admit in public that he pays ...

Seriously, I've never shot with a model where it was my session, and only once or twice where I was shooting portfolio images for the model ...

hrm I see. Well I am getting my profolio done ask we speak . Should be up in a few weeks at most. Just looking around to see what kinda work there is out there.

Ive never even had a model. I'd like to start though because I want to start focusing on a lot of Portraiture.

I pay. At least I have paid before. Most often I work TFP because

A. I'm not good enough to get paid yet (as my recent work shows)
B. I like helping newer models start a portfolio (natural beauty shots are more my genre instead of edgy additions to a portfolio)
C. I'm tired of seeing naive people get shafted for $600-1500 for a set of prints that no one will ever show and then sign an exclusive contract with an agency that will screw the potential model out of everything they can
D. I have a career that affords me the opportunity to pickup the costs of shooting with models (travel, clothing, expenses, etc) and its just more fun IMO to learn how to take photos of people than of dogs or hills or gnats.

That being said, going rate for a model based on your experience and marketability is somewhere between $50/hour for less experienced people posing in swimsuits and $500/hour. The elite get more per hour but I have a model with whom I shot just last month that has almost no practical experience and she just picked up a job for $300/hour doing a photo layout as an extra in a landscape and lifestyle magazine (perhaps similar to Southern Living - I don't think I'm supposed to mention the name of the mag).

Thanks for the info. Thats what I am doing now. TFP I mean. Which is nice, and I dont mind it. I just want to experience new ppl and new styles.

You do understand I'm "joking around" a bit to keep the thread alive so some people with actually helpful info will see it ... I wish I had the skill and equipment to do some portrait or figure work.

You can click on my user name and my email is there in my profile. I'm in a whole different part of the country, so not really looking for a model...I was just curious to see the photos. I wonder why I can't see them? All I get is a blank white "Angle fire" page.
