Hey everyone, I could use some advice from all the wise minds here. I got hired to do some work with a Mayan excavation project in Guatemala this summer. So I'll be doing technical work, documenting, the whole bit. However, the project is a bit strapped for cash (like everyone), and won't be able to cover all my costs for extra equipment and the like. I'm viewing this more as a chance for great experience building, than making a bunch of money. So I've been working on some fund raising ideas.

Unfortunately, I've missed all the major grant deadlines waiting for them to decide whether or not they could hire me. I've gotten a little bit of support from my school that should cover stuff like the passport, shots, and evac insurance. And I've sent out a big email to former clients to encourage them to buy fine art prints, update headshots, refer me to others needing work done, etc.

Can you folks think of any other ways to go about this? I really appreciate any ideas!

Check with local newspapers or archeology magazines to see if they would be interested in the story. Maybe there are local museums as well: if they cannot afford to send out their own archeology teams to build their exhibits, they may help out financially in trade for coverage and some small pieces.

Dave, thanks a bunch. I'm working on a list of publications to go to, but somehow hadn't thought of archeology specific pubs, haha. Also, the museum idea is fantastic. I'm not sure if I could pull pieces, but possibly a photo exhibit of some kind. I may get a digital recorder before I go as well. People could look at photos of ruins and listen to howler monkeys, haha. Again, thanks, those are great ideas.
